The George Binkerd family came to Neligh from Lynch, Nebraska in 1921. George A Binkerd was the son of James and Harriett Binkerd of Dorsey, Nebraska. He had four sisters and two brothers. George had operated a furniture and grocery store in Lynch. He opened a grocery store in Neligh and later a furniture store. He also operated an undertaking business.
George and his wife, Pearl
Connelly were the parents of four children: Garold, Cleo, Veldon and Doris. Cleo died in infancy. Garold
and Veldon worked with their father in the grocery business for a while. Veldon went on the road for 13 years
selling wholesale groceries and Garold operated the Texaco Station before
moving to California. Veldon married
Ruth Recroft, daughter of John and Eva Recroft in 1927. They adopted two children; Jean and
Robert. Robert died early and Jean
married Clarence Wilmoth. They are
the parents of three children: Tami, Robert and Brian. Clarence was killed in an auto accident in
1963. Veldon took over the furniture
business when George retired and operated it until his own retirement in
1969. Garold Binkerd married Leota
Bomar and they adopted two children, Richard Eugene and Vicky. Richard died at the age of 24 and Garold
died in February 1984. Doris Binkerd
married Elmer Lindahl and they are the parents of three children: Karen married Raymond Bay, John and Sue
married Stan Petersen.
