Charles Bennett, son of Charley Bennett and Ruth Hutson, was born at Neligh, Nebraska on April 8, 1927. His teen years were spent working on the ranch of his uncle at Wood Lake. Charles enlisted in the Navy on March 3, 1945 and received his training at San Diego Naval Center. While on leave, he married Leora Sanne at Clearwater. The returned to San Diego where Charles spent WWII aboard the USS Windham Bay Aircraft Carrier. He was discharged on May 13, 1946.
After the war he
spent 35 years in the carpenter business and operating a turkey farm. Charles and Leora were the parents of
three children: Robert W. married
Beverly Sucha, four children; Kathleen R. married Ralph Heckert, two children; and Stanley C. married
Linda Nelson, two children.
