Eugene, the son of Lafayette and Ellen Barkdoll, was born in Oakdale on May 20, 1882, and passed away at the age of 84 years. As a boy he lived with his parents in Antelope County as well as south of Tilden in Madison County. He was engaged in farming for quite a few years. He lived in Tilden a number of years, then moved to Neligh in 1924.
He married Willie K. Shain at Oakdale on February 18, 1903. She received her education at schools south of Oakdale and Tilden in St Clair Valley. They had three daughters, two of whom died in infancy. Willie was very interested in poetry, and several of her poems were accepted by the MidwestChapparel at Tucson, Arizona. Their daughter Ninezelle, was born October 27, 1913, at the home of her grandmother in Oakdale. She graduated in Neligh and held various jobs, but most of her years were spent at the office of the Elkhorn Rural Public Power District as bookkeeper. She is now retired. She was married to Ralph Reutzel at Neligh. He is now deceased.
