Samuel Arthur Baker, son of Pasqua L. Baker and Harriet L. Palmer, was born July 21, 1885 at Cornlea, Nebraska. He grew up in the Oakdale vicinity and graduated from the Oakdale High School in 1907, then attended York College, after which he was employed at the Oakdale Bank.
He and Lelia Ninada Hadley were married in Oakdale on December 29, 1912. She was the daughter of L. D. and Elizabeth Hadley of Oakdale. She was raised in Oakdale and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1910, later attending Wayne State College and taught school in the rural area. Shortly after Sam and Nina were married they moved to Allen, Nebraska where he was a bookkeeper. They had one daughter, Florence Marie who was born in 1913. They moved to Petersburg, Nebraska in 1915 where Sam worked in the bank. Their second daughter, Lois Elizabeth was born there in 1917. They lived in Petersburg until 1918 when they returned to Allen. In 1925, the Bakers moved to Tilden where Sam purchased a lumberyard. The Bakers lived in Tilden until July 1977 when they moved to the Lakeview Nursing Home, Firth, Nebraska. Sam died there on November 28, 1977 and Nina passed away there on September 10, 1978. Both are buried in the Oakdale Cemetery. Florence married Earl Cunningham of Meadow Grove, Nebraska. They moved to Spokane, Washington. Lois Elizabeth married Charles Hauschildt Jr of Lincoln.
