Roy Edward Bailey, son of William Gurley Bailey and Sarah Leap, was born June 17, 1888 at Armstrong, Emmet County, Iowa. He died February 10, 1976 at his farm home four miles east of Elgin, Antelope County, Nebraska and was buried in the Oakdale Cemetery. He married Edith Mary Eggleston at the home of her parents on August 1, 1917. She was the daughter of Oliver Francis Eggleston and Eliza Elizabeth Horne. She was born on her parents' homestead in Cedar Township near Elgin and died June 20, 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska. She is buried in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Roy spent many early years on farms in Iowa and Missouri and after the death of his mother moved with his father and family to a farm near Oakdale. He and his brothers helped with the farm work and during the winter months Roy attended the Peru State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska where he graduated.

During World War I, Roy served with the United States Army. After the war, Roy pursued his profession as an educator. In 1931 the Baileys returned to Elgin and built a new house on the farm. Roy became an educational advisor for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1941, he joined the Red Cross and was later employed by the Veterans Administration. On January 14, 1955, Roy was seriously injured in a car-train collision. He retired and died in 1976. Edith received formal education at Elgin High and Peru State. She taught school for several years. Roy and Edith had one son, Richard William, who became an educator in the Omaha public schools.
