William was born on April 15, 1826 at Plymouth, Cornwall, England. He migrated to America and met and married Mary Ann Day on December 25, 1851 at Green County, Wisconsin.

Mary Ann, the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Ault) Day, was born May 22, 1833 in Coshocton County, Ohio. While in Wisconsin, William was employed in mining in the Browntown area.

William and Mary Ann had a number of children. Two infant daughters died of diphtheria in Wisconsin. Two daughters married brothers; Charlotte married Nat Binger and Almeada married Dr. Sidney Binger. Dr. Binger deserted Almeada, leaving her to care for two children. In time, she married William Martindale of Oakdale. Daughter, Mary Ann “Molly” was born March 16, 1877, died December 20, 1895 of typhoid fever. Manzella married Merritt Lincoln Drake and remained in the Oakdale area. Son, Luther, married Rosie Prevo and moved to Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. John and his bride Sophia Parmer were married in Wisconsin and immediately came to Oakdale. Daughter Elnora, who accompanied the family to Antelope county, married Joseph W Burkhead. Mary Ann, suffering from blindness the last nine years of her life, passed away on April 29, 1910. William was soon to follow his wife in death, dying on December 10, 1910. Both are buried at Oakdale.
