Clarence was born September 26, 1904 in Humphrey, Nebraska, to Edward William Asch and Fredericka Katrina Blattert. He had one sister, Edna Fredericka who was born November 9, 1892 in Stanton, Nebraska.
Clarence grew up in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; graduating from high school there in 1923. He took architectural training at Grand Island Baptist College for a year and then received his degree in architectural engineering from the Chicago Technical College in 1927.
Clarence married Caroline “Carrie” Edna Green on June 11, 1932 at the bride's home in Fremont, Nebraska. Carrie was born March 2, 1903 in Chappel, Nebraska to William Kader Green and Marancy “May” Holcomb Enyeart. She had one brother, George Nicholas Green who was born August 27, 1906 in Chappel. Carrie grew up in Fremont and Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln University Place High School in 1921 and furthered her education at Midland Lutheran College and the University of Nebraska. She taught school in numerous areas before her marriage.
Clarence and Carrie had three children; Constance Mae; Kathryn Lee; and Karl Edward. In 1947, Clarence bought a lumberyard in Orchard and set up Asch Lumber and Hardware. Clarence sold the business to his son, Karl in 1972. Upon retirement, Clarence enjoys woodworking at his residence while Carrie continues to do oil paintings again. On November 23, 1984, Carrie passed away.
