Albert George Anson was born in Quasqueton, Iowa, January 18, 1861. His parents were William George Anson and Harriet Lorancy Blair.
Albert married Martha Jane Sholes in December 1880. Her parents were Elijah and Sarah Sholes and she was born in Iowa in 1864.
Albert and Martha came to Nebraska in 1881 and homesteaded in southwestern Knox County. This later became the location of the Venus store and post office. They had three children: Myrtle, Willard and Zama. Albert was on the school board and lived close to the school house so coal needed for heating was left at the Ansons.
Neighbors asked if they might get coal there too, so he laid in supplies needed by the community. The Venus post office was in the home of Sylvenus Whitmore at the time and had been for 13 years. Albert built a store and the post office was moved there. Fire destroyed the home and store in 1901. The post office was closed in 1959.
In 1906, the Ansons sold their property and moved to Orchard. Albert passed away in 1928 and Martha much later on.
