Andreas Anderson, a public-spirited and enterprising farmer of Ramsey county, stands among the foremost men of his calling. He has devoted his life to agriculture pursuits almost exclusively, and is proprietor of as good a farm as can be found within the limits of Bartlett township, his homestead being located there in section 29. Mr. Anderson is possessed of unbounded energy, and has arrived at his present comfortable circumstances by the exercise of earnest industry and strict honesty. Our subject was born in Norway, July 2, 1850, and was reared in his native land and educated in the common schools. He remained in Norway until the spring of 1871, when he emigrated to America, landing at Quebec, and in May of that year went to Minnesota. He lived in different places until the summer of 1872, when he took up land in Douglas county, Minnesota, where he continued his residence until 1883. In the early spring of that year he went to Ramsey county, North Dakota, and entered claim to the land on which he now resides in Bartlett township. He has placed a valuable improvements on his place, and owns and operates five hundred and twenty acres of good land, and has engaged successfully in diversified farming. Our subject was married in Norway, April 14, 1871, to Miss Martha Christopherson, who was born in Norway, October 7, 1847. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are the parents of six children, named as follows: Maria, now Mrs. Paul Iverson; Albert; Caroline, now Mrs. Carl J. Arneson: Robert, Carrie, Louise. Mr. Anderson takes a hearty interest in local affairs of importance, and has served as a member of the township board of supervisors and a member of the school board. Bartlett
This place, located near the east line of the
county, on Section 25, Town 153, Range 61 was commenced in the fall of 1882,
upon the completion of the St. Paul, Minneapolis & Manitoba Railway to that
point, and for a number of months had a wonderful growth and business, the
population, at its maximum, reaching 1,000. There were 250 buildings in the
place, and the people had high hopes that its boom would be a permanent one. But
the laying out of Lakota, in Nelson County, four miles east of Bartlett, and the
establishment of the county seat at the new town, resulted in the removal of the
bulk of its business to Lakota and the city of Devils Lake. One hotel building
was taken down and removed to West End, in Benson County, where it was
metamorphosed into a number of cottages. There remains at Bartlett two hotels,
several stores, and altogether some twenty five or thirty buildings.
Olive M Fisk
Olive M. Fisk, age 95, resident of Lakota, ND, died Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the
Lakota Good Samaritan Center in Lakota, ND.
Olive Marie Evans was born December 6, 1909 in Bartlett Township of Ramsey
County, ND, the daughter of Edward and Mattie (Larson) Evans. She was raised on
her parents farm and attended school in Doyon, ND. Olive married James H. Fisk
Sr. on December 20, 1926 at Devils Lake, ND. They lived at Grafton, ND, Havre,
MT, and returned to the Bartlett/Doyon area in the 1930's. They purchased their
own farm south of Doyon in 1943. They retired from farming in 1978. They moved
into Lakota in October of 1980. James Fisk Sr. died February 21, 1996. Olive
became a resident of the Lakota Good Samaritan Center on September 29, 2004.
Throughout her life, Olive loved to bake, sew, crochet, and work in her large
garden. She was a very caring lady, and made all of her guests feel at home.
Olive will be deeply missed by her 5 children, Darlene Alvestad of Shelby, MT,
Gloria (H. Allen) Drake of Missoula, MT, Merle (Dolores) Fisk of Mesa, AZ, Janet
"Tootie" (Doug) Leith of Manvel, ND, and Dale (Sheila) Fisk of Doyon, ND; 24
grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and 1
sister, Emma Larson of Cloquet, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Fisk Sr.; her son, James H.
Fisk Jr.; 1 sister, Rose Olson; and 5 brothers, Ben Evans, Roy Evans, George
Evans, Lloyd Evans, and Edward Evans.
Olive’s Funeral Service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Doyon, ND,
on Monday, May 9, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Lay Pastor Don Reynolds.
Interment will be at the Doyon Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Olive’s
grandsons. Visitation will be held at Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on
Sunday, May 8, 2005 beginning at 3:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.
Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, from 1:00 PM until the time of
service.
