BEULAH:  This NPRR townsite was founded in 1914 in Sec. 25-144-88, replacing the settlement called TROY, and absorbing the post office of Bowdish and Farrington, just to the east and west respectively. Lee Pettibone, agent for the Tuttle Land Co., named it for his niece, Beulah Stinchcombe Bishop, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Bishop visited here in 1917, 1928, 1964, the latter occasion noting the city’s 50th anniversary jubilee. The name is of Biblical origins meaning land flowing with milk and honey. The post office was established April 29, 1914,  with Joseph C. Evans, postmaster. The village which incorporated in 1916, has become a center of the energy industry, reaching a population of 2,878 in 1980, more than double its 1970 count.
