Jacob Masser -on passport papers leaving Russia in 1912. On Pauline

Weber’s list stated he was a brother.

                  Infant   daughter

Looks like the Russian passport lists their ages in 1912: Karl 41, Amelia 35, Pauline 14, Helena 6, Ludwig 9,  Henrich 12 , and Jacob must have been a infant.

*Naturalization Papers (No. 2171 Morton County, Mandan, North Dakota, July 31, 1945) for places of birth.

Different spellings of last name: passport papers, it appears to be spelled as Meiser (German or Russian?) and Maiser (French). On Carl’s death certificate it’s spelled Karl Maser. Naturalization paper for Amelia spells it Maser and for entry into US it’s spelled Mahser (her death certificate spells it Masser). The 1920 Census it looks like Mosser or Masser, it is hard to tell if the second letter is an o or an. Some of Carl’s boys spelled it Masser, while others Maser. On the documents it is dependent upon who the informant was or who the official was and whether the official spelled it phonically based on that official’s background. The grandparents probably were illiterate or when the name was written from Russian to German to English it was misspelled.

Emma lives in Madison, SD.  Pauline Died: December 6, 1972, Interment: Peace Cemetery, Dunn Center, ND. After her husband Emil passed away, Pauline moved the farm house to Dunn Center (bought land for house in Dunn Center from Boe) and lived in Dunn Center, ND for over twenty years. Nick Nell bought the house and lived there until his death in 1997 at age 82. Recently, Curator of the Dunn County Historical Society bought the house in August of 2005. Her neighbors were Pauline Ritter who lived behind her house and Gil and Viv Knutson who lived across the street from her. The Knutson’s gave Pauline a copy of the Dauntless Dunn I 1970 county history book, which I have used some for information on the Weber side of the family.

Notes for Emil WEBER

Son of Gottlieb and Julia Weber and Parents of Emma and Olga:

Emil Weber, Born: April 6, 1894 Lublin, Poland (Russia), Died: September 5, 1950, Interment: Peace Cemetery, Dunn Center, ND. Occupation: Farmer north of Dunn Center, ND. Emil played the violin at dances, social get-togethers, and weddings.

Below is information that I’ve gathered so far on the farmland that the Weber’s had in North Dakota. The land that they acquired was homestead land. When Emil and Pauline bought their land I do not known. They bought the Clarence Morrison farm. Emil also rented land to farm a couple miles away. Mom said that Bill Weber only lived a mile away from them. Their farm was 1 mile east of Dunn Center, and nine miles north on section 2. After Emil passed away Grandmother Weber had the farmhouse move to Dunn Center. Mom said that they had built the house new on their farmland. Memories of Mary Krieger: Emil Weber’s house was built by the Morrison’s and had hardwood floors and cupboards that none of the other neighbors had. Aunt Pauline had a nice home to move into. Aunt Pauline also had a rug (linoleum) in her kitchen.I remember as a kid going to Dunn Center to Grandma Weber’s house and everyone would be speaking Low German. She had oil lamps for lighting up the house. A cast iron stove in the kitchen for cooking using wood or corncobs. She got her water from Ritter’s well behind her house. Always had a garden. The outhouse was in the back yard and when it was cold during the winter you really didn’t want to go out there. She did have a pot in the house. Mom said that when they where living at the farm they would hitch the horses to the wagon and dig coal out of the creek beds for fuel for the winter.  By Darrel Goth.  Henry Krieger (Mary Weber’s husband) rented the farmland until Grandma Weber sold it to the Henry and Frieda G. Buehner’s in the mid-60s. Since the farmland was a homestead Grandma Weber retained ½ of the mineral rights on the land.

From Phillip Stohler Family- Mrs. Anton Berg.other folks who lived near us were the Ralph Davises, the Emil Webers, the Bill Webers. The Emil Ritters, the Hube Dehlingers, the Tom Olsons, and of course Dad’s brother, Uncle Christ Rardins later moved into our community when the Ralph Davises left.

      Newspaper article on Emil Weber:

Emil Weber of Dunn Center community reports building up an underground water supply for both household and livestock use by putting in a series of three dams in a draw just below his buildings. Emil stated that he dug down about 12 feet and got a good supply water below the dams and that he had dug several places before trying to get water and had one well dug 300 feet without finding water.

Emil stated he buried an 18-inch culvert, 9 feet long, below the dams and piped the water 125 feet to a tank to supply water for his livestock. Emil put in a shut-off valve on the pipe leading out to the culvert and all he had to do was open the valve when he wanted to fill the tank. (Date unknown, article written by Delia Weber
