Bizley, Clark,
Stannard |
I am looking for any
information on my great great
grandmother, Annie L. Clark. She had
three children:
- Charles
H Clark
- George
W Clark
- Annie
B Clark
She had
a farm near the Bethel town line I
believe, not sure what the name of
the road is. Charles went to
Quebec and joined the army there
and was sent over to England where
he met and married my grandmother,
Hilda Bizley in 1917.
George, according to my
grandfather's obituary, lived in
Foxboro, Mass. As far as Annie B
is concerned I just learned of her
in a 1910 census. Annie L. Clark
was formerly Stannard from
Springhill, NS Canada, born about
1876, I have no idea when she died
or where she is buried. I also
cannot find any more information
on her daughter. So if anyone
thinks they know this family I
would truly appreciate hearing
from you. This site is so
wonderful, I have found
information here that I can't find
anywhere else. ! |

Ferguson, Wales |
I am looking to find
the grandmother of my grandmother.
Her name was Clara Wales (first
husband was George and is buried
in Denmark), she then married a
Ferguson (second
husband). I am told that she is
buried in a Brownfield Cemetery.
No idea when that would have been,
but MY grandmother recently passed
at age 93, so HER grandmother
would have been much older than
that! Sorry I don't have more
information... |

Bartlett, Coolbroth,
Haines, Harris, Killbrith,
McKenney |
I am looking for
information on Phebe Bartlett, born on 6
November 1826 to John Bartlett and
Dorcas Killbrith, in
Hartford, ME. She married Samuel
H. McKenney on 14
December 1847, in Abington, MA.
Her husband, Samuel McKenney, was
also born in Hartford, ME to Silas
McKenney and Jane Haines.
Phebe and Samuel had a son,
Augustus Adelbert, b. on 18 June,
1849 in Abington, MA. Phebe must
have died before 1858 (perhaps in
Hartford...I can find no record of
her death in Abington) because
Samuel remarried in 1858, and
again before 1876. Her son,
Augustus Adelbert, was living with
his grandparents, Silas and Jane
McKenney, in Hartford, ME, in the
1860 and 1870 census.
Phebe's husband, Samuel McKenney
(also a civil war veteran), died
in Hartford, ME in 1882. He left a
widow, his 3rd wife, Sarah
Harris, and a
small son, George Grovesnor
McKenney who was born in 1876.
If anyone has information on any
of these people, I would love to
hear from you! I have been trying
for a long time to find the death
date and place of death of Phebe
Bartlett. Thanks. Phebe
Bartlett and Samuel McKenney are
my great-great grandparents. |

Holmes |
I am attempting to
locate my great great
grandmother's parents. Ellen
Amanda Holmes was born in
Parkman, Piscataquis County, Maine
on 22 May 1836. In the vital
statistics of Parkman, Ellen has a
sister named Janesa Holmes who was
born 9 Dec 1926 in Turner, Oxford
County, Maine. In those vital
statistics it is written:
"Children of Eleanor Holmes". The
question is, what is Eleanor's
maiden name and who is the father?
My problems arise from the fact
that I cannot find a Holmes
married to an Eleanor. I have
found, in the 1850 US census of
Oxford, Oxford County, Maine page
82 - written in page number is
163, on lines 22-27...enumerated
on 13 of August 1850, the name of
'Eben' R. Holmes' (age 48) married
to an 'Ella Holmes' (age 43) with
the following children:
- Louisa
S. Holmes age 12
- Lyman
R. Holmes age 10
- George
F. Holmes age 5
- Walter
E. Holmes age 4
Next, in
the 1860 US Census in Oxford,
Oxford County, Maine on page 79
enumerated on 21st of July 1860 on
lines 17-23, I find 'Eleazer
Holmes' married to Louisa A. F.
Holmes with the same children
listed along with a new sister:
Florence T. Holmes. Which is
correct?
****To note: Ellen Amanda Holmes
is in the 1850 US census in the
town of Sangerville, Piscataquis
County, Maine in the home of
Cotton and Betsey Brown on line 8.
I find in the 1840 US census
Jonathan Holmes living next door
to Cotton Brown. So they were
friends. If Jonathan is the
grandfather of Ellen Amanda
Holmes, she could have been
visiting in Sangerville. Jonathan
lives in the town of Foxcroft in
the 1850 US census. Jonathan
Holmes is the father of Eleazer
Holmes. James Holmes (the father
of Eben' R. Holmes) is also living
in Foxcroft. Cotton Brown has
children the same age as Ellen
Amanda.
I cannot find anywhere the name of
Ella in any other location. My
grandmother, Lulu Maude Chandler
(Ellen Amanda's daughter who
married Volney Alpheus Chandler in
1854 in Guilford, Piscataquis,
Maine), told us Ellen's mother's
name was Eleanor Soule. I just
cannot find any documentation for
her. She also indicated that
Ellen's maternal ancestors were
Churchill and Stewart. This would
indicate to me from my findings
that Jonathan Holmes married Marcy
Churchill and his father Job
Holmes married Mehitable Stewart,
that these are the maternal
mother's she is speaking. Can you
help shed some light on this
issue? The ages of Eben or
Eleazer's children fall into line
for being ages conducive of Ellen
Amanda and could easily be her
siblings. I have no explaination
for the age difference of Janesa
Holmes born in Turner as she was
born 10 years prior to Ellen
Amanda. Thank you so much for your
time. |

Silas & William Merrill. Silas is
my direct descendant and was born
in Freeport Maine on October 4,

Silas moved to S. Paris, ME with
their families sometime in the
early 1800's and both died and are
buried there in Riverside
Cemetery. Silas is buried in his
son-in-law's (Tristram Hersey)
family plot. I don't have the
exact date of Silas's death but I
believe it was sometime in the
1850's. Unfortunately I have had
no luck in obtaining any
information on the parents of
Silas, who was described as being
a 7th generation Merrill in
America. Any information as to the
identities of Silas' parents would

information on Winthrop Newton, my great,
great gandfather, born July 22,
1790 and died October 22, 1853, I
believe in Oxfod County. I have in
my possession a saber carried by
Winthrop Newton in defense of
Portland, Maine in the War of 1812
as a member of the Oxford County
Militia. This information is
according to an article of unknown
date "Written for The Sun" which I
assume is the Lewiston Daily Sun.
I have this original clipping. The
sword was given to my father,
Ralph H. Newton of Auburn by Dr.
Mark T. Newton of Sabattus.
According to my genealogical
information, Winthrop was Mark
Newton's grandfather and my
father's great, grandfather
although from different lines from
Winthrop. I can email a copy of
the article, a picture of the
saber and copy of a picture of
Winthrop. |

I am looking for
information on EBEN (possibly
Ebenezer) & MARTHA NORTON of Porter,
Oxford, ME. Eben was born abt.
1815, Martha abt 9/1824. The
Norton's and their many descending
children, appear to have resided
in the area since it was was
formed. I am eager to learn of
burial locations and if possible,
Eben's parents names, though I
believe they remained in the York
area. All assistance is greatly
appreciated. |
