From Center Bridge in Farmington, go west on Route 43 to Temple. In the
Village swing left on the Intervale Rd. Proceed approx. 1.5 miles to the Gallop
Rd, so called, turn left. The Road is gated a ways up. The cemetery is on the
left on the side hill a total distance of 1.25 miles from the Intervale Road.
Overgrown when visited in the early 1980's. Indentations indicate there are many
more burials than stones.

The Courthouse is right in the middle of "downtown" Farmington. The cemetery
is located directly behind the courthouse. Has had vandalism over the years;
some stones so old they can't be read; some stones broken. Several spots
indicate burials with no stones. One of the oldest cemeteries in Franklin
County.
When the old original meeting house was moved and the new
courthouse was being planned, the footprint of the soon-to-be-built courthouse
was much larger than the footprint of the original meeting house. So in the
1890's, the selectmen were petitioned to allow removal of the bodies and for
them to be re-interred in what is now Riverside Cemetery.

Because of the
age of the stones and the deteriorated condition of the writing, these were
extremely difficult to read. In many cases I had to go back to the History of
Farmington by Butler to get the dates.
"BB" is indicates Butler's Book.
"DW" indicates a previous recording done in the early 1950's by Dorothy Wirth.
Mrs. Wirth's records are available at the Farmington Public Library.

Take Route 2 & 27 East out of Farmington. Proceed to FarmingtonFalls (about 4
miles) and turn right into the Village. Cross the bridge and take an immediate
right. Take the next left; go about 1/2 mile to a "Y" in the road. Bear left.
The cemetery will be on the right a very short distance. Fenced. Usually mowed.
