COUNTY FORMATION

Franklin County was created May 9, 1838, from portions of Kennebec, Oxford, and Somerset Counties. It was named in honor of Benjamin Franklin. A small boundary change was made in 1847, when Franklin gained a bit from Kennebec.

Farmington is the County Seat.
