- Convicted - MARSHALL
- Susan MARSHALL, convicted in the Circuit Court last week for attempting
to poison Sallie L. and Elizabeth SHUPP, of Williamsport, by adding arsenic
to their tea. Sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Penitentiary.
- Our Oldest Subscriber - BROWN
- Our good old friend, John BROWN, of Brownsville, last week called
at our office and paid his 64th year's subscription.
- Property Sold - STOUFFER
- Frisby M. STOUFFER sold his farm, 150 acres, lying 2 miles south of
Ringgold in Washington Co, to Benjamin SHANK, for $67.15 per acre.
It is Mr. Stouffer's intention to move to Kansas and engage in stock
raising.
- Visitors from Ogle County, Illinois - STONEBRAKER
- F. W. STONEBRAKER, Esq., of Mt. Morris, Ogle County, IL, paid a visit
last week. He is an old subscriber, having gone to Ogle county a number
of years ago. He came from Mt. Morris with a party of some fifty odd
Pennsylvanians and Marylanders.

- Successful Anti-Toxine Treatment
- Bridgeport, Connecticut - Jan. 21 - A severe case of diphtheria has been
successfully treated with anti-toxine here.
The son of John McMANUS, aged 5 years, was stricken Friday. He was given
an injection Friday evening, when nearly dead. A second injection was made
Saturday, and the child is now out of danger.

- Havoc by a Cloudburst
- Herrington, Kansas, May 6 - This town was visited by a cloudburst last
night. Lime Creek, which has been dry for a year, was converted into a
raging torrent. Houses, horses and cattle were swept down stream.
John WILLIAMS' house was carried away and the family narrowly escaped
drowning. The house of Samuel McMANUS was also carried away and wrecked
by striking a bridge. McMANUS escaped, but Mrs. McMANUS was drowned.
