BAUST's (Emanuel) Lutheran/Reformed Cemetery is located on Old Taneytown Road (Rt 832)
near Tyrone, with Baust Church Road running south, lying southeast of Taneytown in Carroll
Co, Maryland.
The ground was deeded to Peter SHOEMAKER and others for church purposes in 1797 with the
church being erected in 1815. The old cemetery contains many German inscriptions, all in
this list, except two or three which were so defaced, a reading could not be deciphered.
Peter SHOEMAKER and his wife Catherine, the original owners of the land now occupied as
a cemetery, lie buried in the old cemetery with their associates. The new cemetery was
started about 1850 and the church was remodeled in 1889.
These interments were recorded October 16, 1889 and shortly thereafter published in The
Democratic Advocate newspaper.
