Eighty-Seventh Anniversary. –Mrs. Harriett Tilghman, widow of the late James Tilghman, known throughout the State as "Headlong," celebrated her eighty-seventh birthday last Tuesday, the 12th instant. Mrs. Tilghman has spent the winter in Centreville at the home of Mrs. Isabella Thawley, where she has had an agreeable and comfortable home. It was at the home of Mrs. Thawley the reception was held and it proved a very enjoyable affair. Mrs Thawley and her sister, Miss Frances P. Whitaker, assisted Mrs. Tilghman to receive and served a collation, which was enjoyed by the callers and highly appreciated by Mrs. Tilghman. Mrs. Harriett Tilghman was born in this county, at "Recovery," situate in Corsica Neck, on Chester River, March 12th, 1820. She was the third of four daughters of Col. And Mrs. Peregrine Tilghman. Only two of the four sisters now survive-her elder sister, Miss Sallie Tilghman, and herself. Miss Sallie will round out her 89th birthday about the middle of next month. Although only about two years Mrs. Tilghman’s senior, she is much more feeble, having met with the misfortune of fracturing her hip bone several years ago. Mrs. Tilghman is extremely springly and active for one of her years and it is her delight to talk to all visitors upon the line topics of the day as wall as the history of the past. She is a remarkable woman and both herself and sister are greatly beloved by all who have the pleasure of their acquaintance. Miss Sallie Tilghman, although nearly 89 years of age, was one of the many callers and participants of the pleasures of the occasion. A floral tribute of a beautiful collection of various flowers was sent from "The Hermitge," the ancestral home of the Maryland Tilghman, now quite a numerous and distinguished family. Mrs. Sarah E. Dyott, an invalid neighbor of Mrs. Tilghman and but a few years her junior, contributed a large and fargrant hydrangea. Other callers brought with them appropriate remembeances. Among those who called were Rev. and Mrs. Walter B. Stehl, Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Forman, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Forman, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Forman and daughter, Miss Mary, Mr. and Mrs. W. Scott Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Madison Brown, Mrs. Amanda Coursey and daughter, Miss Rose.
