JENKINS 18 Feb 1930 Mr & Mrs James Jenkins announce the marriage of daughter Grace Shepherd to Russell R Haines on 6 Feb 1930.

SMITH 30 Jun 1930 Frostburg-Funeral of John A Smith, of 96 Ormond St; eldest son of Leonard D. and Marie (Wiley) Smith. Born on a farm east of Cumberland, 22 Jan 1851, he began teaching school in 1868 and taught for 18 years at Cresaptown, Bordon Shaft, Midlothian, Bordon Mines. A foreman at the Bordon Mining Co 1886-1888; returned to teaching until retirement in 1925. Married twice, to Annie M McKenzie, who died 1882. Three of the six children from this union survive; Arthur F Smith-Lonaconing; Ralph R Smith-Cumberland; J Alfred Smith-Morgantown WV. Second wife Katie A Wack Seifer, married in 1885 and died in 1915. Of the nine children of this marriage, six survive; Mrs J Arthur Smith-Columbia SC; Roy L Smith-Cleveland OH; Mrs Tim Hurst-Frostburg; Mrs John B Ort-Midland; Bernard B Smith-Philadelphia PA; J Paul Smith-Cleveland OH; also surviving are two brothers; W Boyd Smith and Richard B Smith-both of Allegany County; burial in Allegany Cemetery.

DISHONG 03 Apr 1931 Mrs Lillie E Dishong, 72, widow of the late William Dishong, died at the home of her brother Frederick Hardman, Green St. She was a dau of the late Levi and Mary Hardman, Bedford Valley. Survived by brothers Shannon A Hardman and Clinton M Hardman-this city; sisters, Mrs Ellis Brotemarkle; Mrs Charles Growden; Mrs Samuel Bruner-all Bedford Valley; burial in Bethel cemetery.

KREITZBURG 15 Jun 1931 Stanley S Campbell, Westernport, absolved of blame in the death of Thomas J Kreitzburg, of Cumberland, a glassworker who was killed Saturday night [13 Jun 1931], at National in Allegany Co. Miss Mary O’Rourke, 18, a passenger in Kreitzburg’s auto is critically injured in Miners Hospital, Frostburg.

LITTLE 06 May 1931 Howard R Little, aged 5 years, son of Mr & Mrs Herman Little of 4th Avenue, died Tuesday night [05 May 1931] Survived by sisters, Helen, Erma, Martha, Alleires; services at Kingsley Church with burial in Greenmount Cemetery.

McGREEVY 01 Dec 1931 Mr & Mrs Owen McGreevy, Blair St, announce the birth of a son at Miners Hospital.

MILLER 24 Oct 1931 David Cassaman Miller, aged 70 years, Bedford Valley, died at his home last night. A son of Jacob and Harriett Miller, early settlers. Survived by, three daughters, Mrs Hugh McCoy; Mrs Joseph McElfish, Mrs Russell Ash-all Bedford Valley; two sons, Amos Miller and John Miller-Bedford Valley; two sisters, Mrs Charles Hite; Mrs H H Oliver-Bedford Valley; four brothers, Ervin Miller, Reed Miller, Sanford Miller, Andrew Miller-all Bedford Valley; burial in Union Cemetery.

SHARER 27 Nov 1931 Mrs Ida Rebecca Sharer, 49, wife of Walter 0 Sharer, died yesterday at 128 % Polk St, Cumberland; survived by husband, son J. Monroe Sharer; mother, Mrs Clara L Hering; sister, Miss Helen Hering; bro, George Hering, Frank Hering, John Hering; she is the dau of the late Frederick Hering; burial in Hillcrest Burial Park.

SMITH 02 Feb 1931 John Hamilton Smith, 82, farmer, died this morning at home in Cresaptown after an illness of one year. He is survived by his widow; four daughters, Mrs Wilbur Thomas and Miss Susan Smith-Cresaptown; Mrs Charles Roof-Antioch CA; Miss Alice Smith-Keyser WV; two sons, Edward Smith-Everett and James Smith-Cresaptown; Mr Smith was a brother to; Mrs Mary Boden and Mrs William Logsdon-Hyndman; Mrs Martha Boden-Garrett PA; Martin V Smith-Green Ridge; The funeral is at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Cresaptown with burial in the church cemetery.

EVERLINE 25 Oct 1932 Chester J Everline was acquitted of manslaughter charges for flying a plane as a licenced pilot with only 32 hours of experience. Flying from Mexico Farms with passengers Franklin C Akenney and Miss Kathleen Trieber, his craft went into a tail spin from which he could not recover.

GRUBER 18 Jan 1932 William Martin Gruber, aged 72 years, 8 months, died at his home 830 Napoleon St, Johnstown PA last Tuesday morning [12 Jan 1932]. his health had been impaired since 1929. Mr Gruber was affiliated with the First Brethern Church where services were held with interment in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. Born in Cumberland, April 1859, he was a son of Mr & Mrs Mathias Gruber; brothers of Jacob Gruber-Johnstown; Henry Gruber-Frostburg; sisters, Mrs J M Shertzer-Cumberland; and Mrs Henry Rewald-Dayton KY. He went to Johnstown in 1878 and began as a brick layer for Cambria Iron Co, later worked for brother Jacob Gruber, subsequently returned to the mills, working 31 years until retirement. Mr Gruber and Miss Marletta McClellan, dau of Mr & Mrs W. D. McClellan, were married at Johnstown and made their home there until Jan 1923 when Mrs Gruber died. Survivors also include son Charles Gruber who married Mary Thomas and live at 830 Napoleon St, Johnstown. Mr Gruber was an avid fisherman.

KENNARD 27 Apr 1932 George S Kennard, aged 66, Clearville farmer, died yesterday; widow, Josephine Kennard; children, Cyrus Kennard, Henry Kennard, Theodore Kennard, Carrie Kennard-home; Walter Kennard-Pittsburgh; Washington Kennard and Mrs Leona Bennett-Cumberland; Burial in Fairview. Pasture Hymes Garland Christian Church.

RING 07 Nov 1932 Funeral services for Anna Ring, aged 17, dau of Mr & Mrs John L Ring, 313 Emily St, who died yesterday night (5 Nov 1932), will be held tomorrow with interment in the Hillcrest Memorial Park. Miss Ring, a well known and talented dancer, for several years a student of Miss Katherine Steckman, made several appearances in the area. She is survived by her parents and a sister June Ring.

SHERTZER 07 Sep 1932 Mrs Catherine Shertzer announces the marriage of dau Florence Margaret to William Empey. The marriage took place at the Annunciation Catholic Church, Akron OH. Attendants were, Mr & Mrs Joseph Garlick, sister and br-in-law of the bride. They will reside in Detroit Mi.

WELLER 25 Nov 1932 Mrs Martha Weller, 38, wife of Paul Weller living at Roberts Place near Bowling Green on McMullen highway, was struck by the machine driven by Ray Simmons, 445 North Centre Street about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon near her home after she had walked to board a bus that had stopped for her. She was taken to Allegany Hospital by George Reissing, 733 Hill Top Drive, who was passing. It was found that she sustained a severe head injury and bruises. An X-ray examination is to be made today. Simmons is said to have declared he did not see Mrs Weller as he slowed down to pass the bus. An investigation was made by State police and Simmons will be cited to appear, pending Mrs Weller’s injuries. The bus passed a short distance enroute to the city, then stopped. As Mrs Weller walked to board it, Simmons’ car struck her, an eye-witness said.

BALCH 19 Feb 1933 Frostburg- [Photo] Captain, Harry C Balch, of the local Salvation Army, resigned Wednesday, to devote his time to the Allegany County Emergency and Juvenile home of which he is founder. The advisory board of the home were guests at a dinner given by Mr & Mrs Balch who were congratulated on the work that they had accomplished at the home since it opened last June. Members of the Advisory Board include County Commissioner, A Charles Stewart; City Commissioners S W Green and Olin Guanett; Dr W O McLane, Henry Rank, and City Attorney William A Gunter.

BRASHEAR 18 Apr 1933 John Howard Brashear, 47, killed on a saw mill on Williams Road; a son of J H and Elizabeth Potts Brashear; sis, Mrs Louis R Jenkins, Mrs J R Twigg, Miss Clara Brashear-Cumberland and Carrie Holliday-Cresaptown.

MILLER 17 Oct 1933 Silas Miller is Tried for Wounding Trail - The trial of Silas Miller, charged with assault with intent to murder Stanley Trail, both living in the Orleans section, went to the jury at noon today. Trail was wounded by Miller, who fired at him with a shotgun in Miller's yard at night. Charles G Watson, attorney for the defendant contended, that Miller shot to protect his property and in self defense. It was contended that Millers home had been damaged by parties unknown and that he was alone at the house at the time. The jury found Miller guilty as indicted after a brief deliberation. O’NEAL 30 Apr 1933 Connellsburg PA- Mrs Elizabeth (Arnold) O’Neal, died today at home, Tuesday, 25 Apr 1933. The widow of Emanuel O’Neal, who died in Juniata some 35 years ago. Survivors Mrs Maggie Nave and Mrs Minnie Deremer of Bedford Valley; Mrs Sue Whipp- Johnstown; Mrs Carrie Carbaugh-Berkeley Road; Mrs Etta Porter; and Edward O’Neal; Charles O’Neal; and John O’Neal. Services in Mt Union Cemetery.

SMITH 19 Mar 1933 Everett - Levi C Smith, died at the home of his dau, Mrs Mamie Steach in Black Valley on Sunday 12 Mar 1933. He was a son of John C & Nancy Clapper Smith and was born 15 Nov 1853. SMITH 20 Aug 1933 Davis WV - Mrs Mary F Smith, wife of D B Smith, died at her home early yesterday morning at 5 o'clock after a lingering illness, aged 70 years. She was born in Purcell, Bedford Co, PA; a daughter of the late Christian and Margaret Miller, was married to D B Smith in 1880 and the family has been among the early pioneers, having been residents for the past 44 years. Mrs Smith was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are, her husband and son Theodore, at home; four daughters, Mrs Mattie Dehaven, Boonsboro MD; Mrs Mamie Hamilton and Mrs Nellie Lindsay, both of Export PA; Mrs Fannie Hart of Braddock PA; two other sons, James W Smith of Everett WA and Edward R Smith of Charleston WV; four sisters, Mrs Savannah Frey-Paw Paw WV; Mrs Lucy Reicht-Cumberland MD; Mrs Caroline Northcraft-Everett PA and Mrs Josephine Kennard-Purcell PA; and three brothers, Emanuel Miller-Cumberland MD Alexander Miller-Mill Creek WV and Silas Miller-Purcell PA. SPITZNAS 28 Jun 1933 James E Spitznas, principal of Allegany High School, Cumberland and Miss Elizabeth Norris Daugherty, daughter of Mrs Otis P Jewett, 706 Schley St were married today at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, by Dr Hixon T Bowersox.

WEISENBORNE 07 Jan 1933 Eckhart MD- Mrs Russell Weisenborn, 42, formerly Miss Martha Connor, died 3 Jan 1933 at home in Barberton OH, a dau of Mr & Mrs L B Connor, she was noted for work with the local M. E. church; surviving, husband and son, her father LB Connor; sisters, Mrs Raymond Schade- Cumberland; Mrs Joseph Miller- Frostburg; brothers, Millard Connor, Crawford Connor, Lewis Connor, and Griffith Connor- Eckhart and Charles - Cumberland.

WESLOW 07 Jul 1933 Frostburg - LeRoy Elmer Weslow, aged 2 years, son of Mr & Mrs Elmer Weslow, died this morning. Besides the parents, a sister Rose Marie survives.

CARTER 09 Apr 1934 Mrs Frank Carter, 43, died Saturday, 7 Apr 1934 in her home in Eckhart. Surviving are children, Georgiana, Lois and an infant born on 7 Apr 1934. She was Anna Nelson, dau of Elizaneth nelson and the late Charles Nelson. Three brothers all of Barberton Oh George, Robert and William also survive. Burial in Eckhart cemetery.

OFTEN 29 Mar 1934 Thursday, Mr & Mrs Charles V Osten(sic. Often), 555 North Mechanic St, announce the birth of a daughter at Allegany Hospital. NOTE: In the Recap of Weeks births 8 April 1934 they spell surname correctly.

WOLFE 11 May 1934 William G Wolfe, 75, died today at home on Baltimore Pike, three miles East on Folks Mill Farm, scene of a Civil War skirmish. A showplace on the Baltimore Turnpike, once considered as a site for a city park, but defeated in a referendum election, Since then a portion of the land was acquired for Hill Crest Cemetery.

GOWDY 27 May 1935 Mrs Verne Gowdy, Akron OH, a former resident of Eckhart, is guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr & Mrs John W. Kreitzburg, Clarysville. Mrs Gowdy was called by the illness of her daughter, Mrs Christopher Weisenmiller, a patient in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.

KREITZBURG 26 Jun 1935 Frostburg - Mrs Mary Kreitzburg, 59, wife of George Kreitzburg, died at 1:00 AM this morning at her home on Charles Street after being in failing health for several months. A dau of the late Mr & Mrs John McGraw; surviving are, sister, Miss Anna McGraw-Baltimore; brothers, Rev. Francis McGraw-St Thomas Catholic Church-Baltimore; John McGraw-Cumberland; Thomas McGraw-Lonaconing; James M McGraw-Pittsburgh; Joseph McGraw-Frostburg; she was a member of St Michaels Catholic Church-Frostburg.

McLUCKIE 03 Oct 1935 Death of Eleanor Pear McLuckie, 5 years old; dau of William T McLuckie of Clover Hill Farm, Baltimore Pike; born 10 Nov 1930; survived by sister, Virginia and brother, Billy.

MORRISON 09 Sep 1935 Piedmont- John W Morrison, 87, died 08 Sep 1935. A native of Kerntown VA, he had farmed in Burlington WV for 50 years before retiring in Piedmont. His wife Julia died in 1918; survived by children; Mamie Holland, Frederick Morrison, William Morrison, Edward Morrison, Floyd Morrison.

MOUSE 08 Mar 1935 Robert H Mouse, 3, son of Francis and Isabella J Howe Mouse, died this morning at home, 9 Boone Street. Burial in the St Peters & Paul Cemetery.

O’NEAL 20 Nov 1935 Frostburg-Mrs Sophia (Kreitzburg) O'Neal, 75, dau of late Conrad and Margaret Kreitzburg of this city, died 12 Nov 1935 at McKeesport PA. She was the widow of James O'Neal, a former hotel proprietor in McKeesport. Mrs O'Neal was a sister of Mrs Annie Rose, 129 Frederick St, Cumberland; also surviving are brothers, Charles and George Kreitzburg of Eckhart.

WEISENBORNE 16 Jul 1935 Frostburg-Henry B Weisenborn, 51, a native of Connellsville PA, died last night at 10:00 PM at home in Eckhart after a brief illness. He had resided in Eckhart practically all of his life. While ill for several weeks, he had been able to work yesterday as inspector at a mine tipple for Consolidated Coal Co. He was a son of the late Henry Weisenborne and Catherine Weisenborne of Barberton OH. Survived also by sisters, Mrs Della Gorbell; Mrs Anna Lapp; Mrs Helen Dixon; Mrs Irvin Brant; and Mrs Elizabrth McDermott. He is a brother of Russell Weisenborne-Barberton OH and Arthur Weisenborne-Eckhart. Surviving also are wife, Mrs Louisa Nelson Weisenborne and three sons Russell Weisenborne-Frostburg; Milton Weisenborne-Eckhart; and Harry Weisenborne-at home; and daughters Louise and Della-at home. Burial in the Porter Cemetery.

A son of Jacob Allison and Rebecca Slonaker, he was born in Bedford County and was married twice; 1m. Sarah (Harbaugh) Allison died 1918; 2m. Anna (Walker) Smith Allison died last year. Surviving children are; Harry Allison-Alum Bank; Edward Allison-Columbus OH; Harrison Allison-Flintstone; Quay Allison-Harrisburg; all born of the first union. Services will be held in Pleasantville Evangelical Church with burial in Spruce Hollow Cemetery.

BENNETT 10 Jan 1936 Mrs Annie C Bennett, 85, wife of Rev. John Bennett, pastor of the Brethern Church of Artemas for 50 years, died last night. A native of Hagerstown, she was born 08 Nov 1850 a dau of Isaac & Nancy Sowers. She resided in Bedford County since age 19. BRIDGES 05 Oct 1936 Leoda S Bridges, 23, wife of Raymond S Bridges, 914 Gay St, died yesterday. Survivors include, husband Raymond; sons, Calvin, Joseph and Wesley; parents Mr & Mrs Charles Elrich; brothers Melvin and Calvin; sisters, Mrs Edward O’Baker; Mrs Henry Grahame; Miss Vera Elrich. CHAMBERS 28 Oct 1936 William Chambers, 6 yr old son of Mr & Mrs George K Chambers, died today at Memorial Hospital where he had been since 13 Aug 1936, when he was hit in the head by rocks thrown by playmates into a pear tree. He lived with grandmother Mrs Mary E Kornhoff, 133 Liberty St. Survivors include a brother George Chambers, uncle William E Kornhoff. Burial in Hillcrest Park.

CREUTZBURG 27 Nov 1936 Lonaconing MD-Miss Neva Cowan Creutzburg, 35, died yesterday at the State Sanitorium at Sabillisville MD where she had been a patient for some time. A native of Barton she is the daughter of Mrs Catherine Creutzburg and the late EF Creutzburg. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Barton. For a number of years Miss Creutzburg held a secretarial job for the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce later being a secretary for the American Sugar Refining Company of New York. Besides her mother, she is survived by a sister Miss Freda Creutzburg, RN in Baltimore. Burial in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing MD.

DEREMER 13 Aug 1936 Bedford Valley PA-Alvin D Deremer, 70, native of Bedford Valley, died yesterday at home and funeral services at the POS&A cemetery. A son of Josiah & Julia (Trout) Deremer, he was a mail carrier for 35 years. Survivors include; wife, Minnie O’Neal; children Roy E Deremer, Mrs Charles Zembower, Mrs Jennings Oster, Mrs Ralph Rose, Mrs Lawrence Groves-all Bedford Valley; Mrs John Greise, Mrs Walter Drum-both Cumberland; Mrs Jessie Fisher-Barberton Oh; Mrs Israel Williams-Pisgah WV; Mrs Earl Hite-Greensburg PA; John Deremer-at home.

GOWDY 23 Jan 1936 Mrs Christopher Weisenmiller, 735 Fayette St was advised of her mother's death, Mrs V. L. Gowdy, of Dalton OH, following a stroke of paralysis. She was a former resident of Eckhart, her first husband being Andrew Porter. She left Allegany County, MD in 1917. Surviving ar her husband, a dau, Mrs Edward Stevens-Akron OH, and Mrs Weisenmiller-this city. Burial will be in Dalton OH.

HARDMAN 04 Nov 1936 Madelon Hardman dau of Mr & Mrs Carl Hardman-Frederick Street extended; to Edgar J Hodgson, son of Mrs Mary S Hodgson-Chestertown.

HARDMAN 22 Mar 1936 Mrs Mary Hardman, wife of Albert F Hardman, a former resident, died in Akron OH yesterday after an illness of about 2 months. The family left here 5 years ago and were members of the Centre Street Methodist Episcopal Church. Survivors include, her husband; sons, Joseph and Albert Hardman. Funeral services to be conducted in Danville KY.

LITTLE 08 Mar 1936 Hancock- William E Little, 81, died 07 Mar 1936, and services and burial in the St Peter’s Catholic Church, nest to his wife, Laura Belle Little, who died 16 Feb 1927. Mr Little had been ill with paralysis. Prior to operating a dairy farm near Hancock, he was one of the best known boatsmen on the C & O Canal, on which, his father, the late Patrick Little, a native of Ireland, was a pioneer navigator. Some years back, Mr Little served on the Hancock City Council. Surviving children: Mrs Bessie Wentzell-Harpers Ferry WV; Harry A Little of Akron OH; Mrs Clarence Terry of Baltimore; Laura B Little; Pauline J Little, and Paul Little of Hancock.

MILLER 23 Aug 1936 Frostburg- Mrs Daniel Miller, of Zihlman, was stricken by paralysis while attending the funeral of her brother Charles Blank, who was buried yesterday in Allegany Cemetery, died several hours later at her home. Mrs Miller was twice married and is survived by the following children; Mrs Benjamin Dorsey, Mrs Richard Shives, Mrs Herman Little -Cumberland; Carl, Robert and Kenneth Pollock. Children born of the second marriage are; Harold, George, Jackson, Michael, William and Waneta Miller-all at home; and her husband Daniel Miller. The following brothers and sisters; George and Melvin Blank-Holsopple PA; Robert Blank of New Castle PA; William Blank of Gray PA; Harry Blank of Baltimore; Roy Blank of Corriganville; Howard Blank; Mrs Bertha Mac Murray and Mrs Peter Kirby-of Cumberland; Mrs John Chambers and Mrs Owen England-of Niles OH.

PARTLOW 23 Aug 1936 Thomas W Partlow, 48, of 601 N Mechanic St, who was found unconscious along the B&O tracks near the Knox St crossing, died in the late afternoon yesterday from a compound fracture of the scull. He died without recovering consciousness. City detectives and railroad police said Partlow, an employee of the Celenese Corporation of America, apparently was struck by a train or fell from a freight. His body was found by Gilbert Haus of Mt Savage lying along the tracks about 150 feet west of the crossing. He is survived by widow Mrs Prema Shertzer Partlow and a son William Partlow, both of Frostburg . He was a native of Virginia. The body was taken to the widows home on Welsh Hill, Frostburg with funeral services and burial in St Michaels Catholic Church and Cemetery.

WIGFIELD 20 Dec 1936 Everett PA-Mrs Maria Elizabeth (Kennard) Wigfield died at the home of her daughter Mrs Alva W Pennell, Water St in Everett on Thursday, 17 Dec 1936. She was the dau of the late James and Mary Ann (Armstrong) Kennard, and was born in Monroe Township on 21 Feb 1849, and married in 1870 to Simon P Wigfield. Surviving children are Mrs Pennell of Everett; John Wigfield-Riverside CA; George Wigfield-Altoona. Burial in the Everett Cemetery.

WILLS 29 Dec 1936 Maud Herring Wills and others have filed a bill of complaint in equity in the Circuit Court against Walter Wills and Lottie Sheilder Wills, his wife, and other complaintants asking for a decree of sale of property possessed at the time of death of Martha E Wills of Mt Savage and the distribution of the proceedes to the heirs. Morgan C Harris attorney filed the bill of complaint.

WILLS 31 Dec 1936 Westernport-William Harrison Wills, 61, husband of Minnie Krampf Wills, died yesterday at home on Wood St. Born in Mt Savage, he resided in Westernport for 33 years employed as a machinist for the B&O; survivors include 3 children, Raynor Wills and Miss Wilhelmina Wills RN -Baltimore; Cromer Wills-at home; brother of Tillie Rettberg and Mrs Otto Weuchler-Baltimore, Mrs Lawrence Malloy-Mt Savage; George S and Herman Wills-McKeesport PA; services in St James Episcopal Church with burial in Philos Cemetery.

HARDMAN 02 Oct 1937 Alice Arintha Hardman, Mrs. George Edward Hardman, 63, died this morning at 7 o’clock in her home, Baltimore Pike, after a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband and six children, Mrs. Pleasant Messick and Miss Rhoda Hardman, at home; Mrs. Walter Miller and Mrs. Lester Raines, Baltimore Pike; Blaire Hardman, Christie Road , and Marshall Hardman, Baltimore Pike. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Mt Pleasant Lutheran Church following a short service at the home at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. 03 Oct 1937. Funeral services for Mrs. George E. Hardman, 63, who died yesterday morning at her home, Baltimore Turnpike, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, at the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, Mattie Pa., near Everett. Rev. L. W. Durst will officiate. A brief service will be held in the home at 11 a.m. She is survived by her husband, six children, and seventeen grandchildren.

KREITZBURG 21 May 1937 Mrs Annie Kreitzburg, 58, wife of George Kreitzburg, died yesterday at her home in Ridgeley WV following a long illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, with interment in Hillcrest Park. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs John L Ring and Mrs J F Bittner-this city, and Mrs E B Vaughan-Pittsburgh; sons George H and Harry A Kreitzburg-this city.

KREITZBURG 12 Jul 1937 George Kreitzburg, 69, of 313 Emily St, died this morning at Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since 3 June 1937. His wife died six weeks ago. The body was taken to Wolford’s Funeral Home and will be removed to the home of a daughter, Mrs John Ring, with whom he resided. Interment will be in Hillcrest Park. He is survived by two other daughters; Mrs James Bittner-this city and Mrs Edmund Baughan-Pittsburg and two sons, George Jr. and Harry Kreitzburg-this city and seven grand-children.

OFTEN 26 Mar 1937 Wedding of Carrie E Wagner Smith a daughter of Mr & Mrs John G Wagner of 726 Bedford St and Philip Leonard Often a son of the late Annie & Patrick Often of Eckhart were married last night in the parsonage of St Luke’s Lutheran Church with Rev H Hall Sharp, pastor. Attendees were: Mr & Mrs John F Brode. The bride works for the Amcele Corporation of America and the groom works for the Cumberland Brewery. After a trip to Baltimore and Washington, they will reside at 206 Union Street.

POWELL 13 Jul 1937 Jess Powell and his wife, Hazel Powell have filed a petition in juvenile court for the adoption of Boyd Kent Harris. Recently, Vitl J Dormio and May F Dormio filed a similar petition to adopt the Harris child. Powell cites he is a relative, the infant being a ½ brother, and that he and his wife wish to adopt him. His mother, Elizabeth Harris, a widow, has agreed to the adoption. Edward J Ryan filed the petition. Judge, William A Hunter decreed the two year old to Jess & Hazel Powell on 16 Jul 1937.

He and brother Jacob Blubaugh of Loarstown are the last family survivors of Andrew and Sarah Winters Blubaugh, pioneer residents of Dan’s Mountain.

KREITZBURG 01 Dec 1938 Thursday, Harvey Kreitzburg, 35, formerly of Frostburg, died at his home in Chicago, Saturday 26 Nov 1938, in the morning. Besides his mother Annie Morris Kreitzburg, his wife, three children, his sister Mrs Laverne Wagner, McKeesport PA and two brothers, Clarence and Aden of Chicago survive; Mrs M L Shea, 546 Maryland Ave, is his aunt.

KREITZBURG 25 Feb 1938 John J Kreitzburg, 50, Leetonia Ohio, former resident of Frostburg, died Wednesday 23 Feb 1938 at the home of his sister, Mrs James McCue-Leetonia. Funeral is tomorrow at St Patricks Catholic Church followed by burial in Leetonia Oh. Mr Kreitzburg was the son of the late George and Sarah Kreitzburg. Surviving are another sister, Mrs Julia A McGreevey-Cumberland and a brother George Kreitzburg-Frostburg.

KREITZBURG 03 Nov 1938 Frostburg-Mrs Annie Dundon Kreitzburg, 72, wife of George Kreitzburg, died this morning at her home in Eckhart where she had resided all of her life. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Michael Dundon, Eckhart. Mrs Kreitzburg, who had bee ill since last Easter, suffered a stroke last week. Besides her husband, she leaves a sister Florence Marion, Buffalo NY, and a brother Frank Dundon-NJ. She was a member of St Michaels Catholic Church. The body will be taken to the home of her niece Anna.

MORRISON 15 Apr 1938 Piedmont WV- Mrs Anna (Jones) Morrison, 65, wife of William A Morrison, died yesterday about noon at her home at 196 W Fairview St, from a heart attack. Although she had been ill since Friday, her death was unexpected. A dau of the late John W & Ellen Jones, she was born in Maysville WV and had been a resident here for 14 years. She was a member of the Church of the Brethern at Maysville. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs Harry Roye-McCoole and Mrs Otha Evans-Westernport and three sons; Dale Morrison-Piedmont; Mervil Morrison-Waynesboro PA and Virgil W Morrison-at home. Burial in the Frontz Cemetery, Mayville WV.

SHERTZER 07 Oct 1938 Charles H Shertzer-Word was received today of the death of Charles H Shertzer, World War veteran and former Cumberland resident at Escondito Hospital, Escondito CA. The funeral will be held in Escondito on Saturday. A son of Wilhelmina Shertzer and the late J Michael Shertzer of 619 N Centre St, this city. He also leaves a wife in California and two brothers, Leonard M Shertzer-Norwood OH and H Raymond Shertzer-Cumberland. Mr Shertzer was a member of the 54th Hospital Train A.E.F. and was injured while serving in France. He never regained his normal health and resided in Texas and California since 1922 where the climate was more favorable for him. In September 1922 he married Miss Rose Mary Norton of Torrington Conn at El Paso TX. She was also served in World War overseas. His mother spent the winter of 1936 with him in Escondito.

Valley Road 16 Feb 1938 Rock being blasted from Mullen stone quarry on Valley Road on road to the Allegany County Home.

Valley Road 26 Oct 1938 Little Valley Road from Peavine Run Gap to US-220 near Centenary Church rebuilt by WPA to 14 feet wide. This was the path of pioneers in the valley and the only access until the extension of Bedford Road.

VANCE 08 Jul 1933 Mrs Neal Vance, 32, formerly Pearl Smith, died in Los Angeles CA on Jul 6, 1933. Mrs Vance was born in Flintstone and was the dau of A R Smith and the late Annie Thompson Smith. She has resided in Los Angeles for 5 years. Besides her husband and father are a bro, Perry Smith and 2 sis, Mrs M S Cosgrove - Cumberland and Sara Smith-Los Angeles.

ZEMBOWER 13 Feb 1938 Mr & Mrs Filler A Zembower celebrate their 50th anniversary at their home on the Bedford Road. Mr Zembower is the son of the late Josiah and Rebecca Zembower and was born 24 Apr 1866. Rebecca was born 05 Aug 1866 a dau of the late Hiram H and Hester Ann Hardinger. They were married 14 Feb 1888 by Rev A A Hartmann and have seven children.
