They had the first frame house in Beaver City, the dwelling standing there where Fred Kohn now lives. They lived there one year and the house burned down with all of the household effects, the family escaping with only the clothes they were wearing. They made another start, taking a homestead south of town. They, like many of the other settlers, weathered the droughts, grasshoppers, and snakes and having their share of joy, sorrow and hardship.
