Chris Crabtree's grandfather, Claude Leonidas Crabtree, lived from 1879-1965. When he was in his early twenties he took many photographs of Webster and Hopkins County people and places .Claude L. Crabtree's grandson has scanned these turn-of-the-century era photos and has offered them to the Webster and Hopkins County KYGenWeb pages. Chris' grandmother, Mabel Cobb Crabtree, made notations on the backs of the photos, so most of them are identified.
Chris notes that not every photo in the collection was photographed by Claude. Some of them were taken before Claude was born and others were taken by unknown photographers. Name of photographer, if known, will be noted on each page. Additionally, Chris tells us there are some neat shots of old 1800's era buildings in Hanson and Slaughters including roller mills, the Coffman House in Hanson and the excavation of the railroad (later Highway 41-A) "deep-cut" between Slaughters and Hanson.
Nancy Trice, the Hopkins County KYGenWeb Coordinator, and I will be placing these photos online as we receive them from Chris. We expect this will be an ongoing project. Check back now and then to see the new additions to The Crabtree Collection.
Our thanks to Chris Crabtree for making these wonderful photographs available.
