William Crabtree

William Crabtree, born 06 Mar 1811 probably in Washington Co. TN, died 08 May 1904 in Hopkins Co., KY.

He married Rosey Prather, the daughter of Thomas Prather and Ann Ashby, 21 Feb 1833. William and Rosey are both buried at the Crabtree Cemetary north of Hanson in Hopkins Co. KY.

Their children are:
- Christopher Columbus Crabtree, b. 14 Nov 1834, Hopkins Co., KY; d. 04 Oct 1912, Hopkins Co., KY; he married Adaline Clements
- William L. Crabtree, b. 20 Apr 1844
- Julia Crabtree, b. 24 Sep 1838, Hopkins Co., KY
- Mary J. Crabtree, b. 10 June 1841; d. 1918
- Lutitia Crabtree, b. 07 Sep 1836; d. 08 Aug 1914
- Emily Jane Crabtree, b. 16 Nov 1833


William Crabtree was called "Father Billy" by descendants, a family oral tradition passed along by Kirby Crabtree, Sr. A note in the family Bible says he often started projects but never finished them. His parents came to Hopkins Co. KY from Washington Co. TN about 1813 when he was just a small child.

He sold ground to the Old Salem Methodist Church 24 Jun 1848 near the original location of Shadricks Schoolhouse in northeastern Hopkins County near Slaughters.

Joseph Crabtree gave proof that John Crabtree, Washington Crabtree, Malinda Ashby (formerly Crabtree, now wife of Stephen J. Ashby), William Crabtree and Jane Ashby, formerly Crabtree, now wife of Absolom B. Ashby) are the children and heirs at law of Isabell Crabtree, dec. (formerly Isabell Carr, daughter of John Carr of Washington Co. TN) and late wife of James Crabtree, dec.
