The Sebree Banner reports on the 1999 Hancock Reunion in the August 19 issue of the newspaper. The article is quoted here with permission of the Banner."The annual Hancock reunion was held Sunday, August 8, in the Onton Fire Barn. A large number of descendants of pioneers William Lewis and Sarah Bradshaw Hancock enjoyed the day of fun, food and fellowship.
William Lewis and Sarah arrived in the Onton area about 1850 and resided there for the remainder of their lives. Both are buried in the Hancock Family Cemetery east of Onton. They were the parents of eighteen children (two sets of twins) who grew up and married neighbors named Ashby, Carlisle, Timmons, Howell, Jackson and Luck.
Benjamin B. Hancock had the most descendants present - 24; Adeline Hancock Carlisle - 1; Lewis Thomas Hancock - 2; Sarah Jane Hancock Timmons - 1; Ellen Judy Hancock Luck - 3; William Henry Harrison Hancock - 1. As was common in those days cousins married cousins thus there were several present who were descendants of two of Lewis and Sarah's children.
Jack and Virginia Hancock of Augusta, Georgia traveled the farthest. Wilma Branson Patterson, age 89, was the oldest present and Phillip Logan Sizemore, age 1, was the youngest. Five generations of his family are living. The closest of kin to the pioneer ancestors were two great-grandchildren - Wilma Branson Patterson and Alvin Fleming.
Others attending were Don and Roberta Shrake, Carterville, Illinois; Glenn and Cassie Vogedes, Fern Creek, Kentucky; Dr. Norris and Mary Lou Branson, Joni and Jeremy Hoesli, Henry and Georgia Parker, Esthonia Jackson Edwards, all of Evansville, Indiana; Tammy, Joe, Andrew and Morgan Parker, and Martha Noffsinger, all of Newburgh, Indiana; Ruth Timmons Lisenby, Hopkinsville; Ralph and Gladys Luck, Jean Luck of Henderson; Bill and Sue Oakley, Keith and Joely Oakley and family, Adana Oakley, Paducah; Betty Dunville Hartz, Highland, Indiana; Murl and Loretta Dickerson, Madisonville; Carol Blue Jones, Vickie Blue Shoulders, Teresa Blue Cardwell, Phillip L. Sizemore, Clay; Dora Jane Hall, Charles and Rhonda Rawlings, Martine Wise, Sebree; and Holeman Hancock, Frank D. Hancock, Fletcher Nance, Edith Roland, Sue Thomasson, Naomi Perrin, and Louise Fleming, all of the Onton area.
There were others who visited, but failed to sign the registry."
