In a follow-up article about the gazebo at Sebree Springs Park being demolished, the August 6, 1998 edition of the Banner quotes Sebree Mayor Ron Todd as saying, "We had contractors and individuals look at it: we knew we couldn't leave it where it was, it was just a mess, everything in it was rotten. It had been rebuilt a couple of times; we have spent a heck of a lot of money. I made the final decision."Russell Edwards, president of the Chamber of Commerce was quoted as saying, "There was a well under the gazebo forcing water to come up in the park, all over it and CSX would not help us. Scott Manufacturing and Alcan came to our rescue this summer. I can't remember ever seeing anyone use the gazebo. "
At least one councilman and one citizen present voiced the opinion that the demolition of the gazebo should have brought before the council and discussed at a town meeting.
