immigrated to America and lived in Maryland sometime prior to his move to St.
Thomas Parish, Orange County, VA about 1747. He met and married his first wife Elizabeth
MORTON in Maryland before 1740. He died in Orange County VA October
24, 1791.

American Revolutionary War. He was at Yorktown at the surrender of English
General Cornwallis to General George Washington. He moved his family to Wilkes
County NC after the Revolutionary War. In 1789 he and Phebe Foster-Jones sold 200 acres in
Orange County, VA and moved to Cub Creek near Moravian Falls, in Wilkes County,
NC. He had one wife PHEBE

In the name of God amen I Hugh Jones of Orange County being through the mercy of the Almighty tho weak in body yet of a sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute and order this my last will and testament and do desire it may be received by all as such. Imprimis I give to my beloved son George Jones one shilling sterling. Item I give to my beloved son Hugh Jones one shilling sterling. Item I give to my beloved son Morton Jones one shilling sterling.
Item I give to my beloved son Benjamin Jones one shilling sterling. Item I give to my beloved daughter Frances Jones-Foster one shilling sterling. Item I give to my beloved daughter Elizabeth Jones one shilling sterling. Item I lend unto my beloved wife Catey Jones my whole estate during her natural life or widowhood.
Item and after her death or marriage my whole estate is to return to my beloved son Catlett Jones with all its improvements unto him and his forever except fifty acres of the land I now live on and the said fifty acres to be of equal value to any fifty acres in the tract the said land and its value to be paid by my son Catlett Jones to my grandson Joseph Jones son of Elizabeth Jones and if he should die without a lawful heir the above mentioned fifty acres of land or its value to return to my son Catlett Jones or his heirs. Item I constitute and appoint my beloved son Catlett Jones and my friend William Morton my executors of this my last will and testament revoking all wills heretofore by me made ratifying and confirming this to be my only will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of October one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight

In
the name of God amen
I George Jones of Wilkes County and State of North Carolina being at present in
a low and feeble State of health and by the Mercy of God have arrived at the
Advanced age of Eighty five Years and Cannot Reasonably Calculate much longer to
exist in this World and believing my mental faculties to be of a Sound and
disposing Character have thought proper to make a last Will and Testament. In
manner and form as follows. (To wit) Item 1st: It is my Will and
desire that from the proceeds of my Estate all my Just debts be Punctually paid
the Greatest of which is a Mortgage bond to my two Sons Edmund & George, and
some Notes due to Edmund
and a debt due to my Son Hugh the balance of my debts are but
trifling. Item 2nd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth
Downs my Negroe Girl Jane and all the other property heretofore given her as her
full portion. To my daughter Nancy Mills I give my Negroe Girl Moriah and such
other property as she had received as her full portion. And to my daughter Lucy
Jones I give my Negroe Girl Mary one feather bed and furniture. And to my Grand
daughter Delphia Jones, I give one feather bed and furniture and fifty dollars
in money. And to my Sons Edmond,
George, Catlet and Thomas I give five dollars each. Item 3rd: I give
and bequeath to my Son Hugh Jones the Tract of Land on which I now live on
Fishers Creek, two beds, one Cow and to him and Lucy I give all my Household
furniture not Specially Bequeathed. Item 4th: I give to my Daughter
Delphia G. Bryan my Ox cart now in her Possession and one feather bed and
furniture. And to my Daughter Phoebe
Jones I give my black Mare, one Cow and calf, one feather bed &
furniture and twenty dollars. Item 5th: It is my Will and desire that
after my death that my Exeutor or Executors shall Advertise and Sell at twelve
Months credit as much of my Estate both real and Personal as will be Sufficient
to discharge

All my debts and the Residue to be xxxxxxxx delivered over as above directed if
any Surplus should be found or Remain not by this Will disposed of then my Son
and daughter Hugh and Lucy Jones shall have the same. 6th and lastly: it is my
