The Southern Kentucky Sanitarium on the Southeastern corner of the intersection of Madison St and College
The Southern Kentucky Sanatorium on the Southeastern corner of the intersection of Madison St and College; Dr. William Alvis Guthrie came to Franklin in 1891 and began practicing medicine. In the early 1900's he built the first unit of Franklin's first hospital on South College Street and by 1908 the large stone building was completed. Shortly after the completion of the Sanatorium, Dr. Guthrie formed a training school for nurses in connection with the hospital. The Female College at the south end of College St, 1868-1917; sold to Franklin Graded Common School District. They agreed to forever maintain at said Franklin Female College a first class High School...."Franklin-Simpson A Picture of Progress" 1819-1975, pg 536-562; complied by Mrs. James Beach, Sr and James Henry Snider. The Franklin-Simpson Middle School is now located on this property.

Hillsdale School 1912; First Hillsdale School was know as Cedar Hill and was on land donated by the Lord Littleton Gibson family. Originally built as a four story structure for use as the Southern School of Osteopathy which established and began it's first term on 1 March 1898 in a building located on Depot Street (Kentucky Avenue). The closing exercises took place at the College Chapel on Friday evening, 23 June 1905. The school reopened as the Southern College of Osteopathy and operated under this name for about 2 years. Soon after the school again closed and the campus and building were sold to the Franklin school system.
