Thomas Garth

According to some publications, Thomas Garth was born in 1740 in Surrey, England, the eldest son of John Garth, of Louisa County, Virginia. However, John, was already in Virginia by 1733.  Thomas married Judith Bowcock, daughter of Salem Bobcock and Susannah Bow(e) of Louisa County, Virginia, about 1761.  This couple lived in Albemarle County, Virginia until Thomas' death there in 1812 and Judith's on February 1, 1806.

Ann "Nancy", born about 1764 in Albemarle County, Virginia and died after April 1802  and by 1810 Albemarle
County, Virginia. She married Richard Gaines.  He was born on May 4, 1754 on Buck Island Creek in

Albemarle County, Virginia.
Thomas, Jr., born May 22, 1766 in Albemarle County, Virginia.  He died October 13, 1834 in Albemarle County,
Virginia.  On April 18, 1778, he married Susannah Durrett in Albemarle County, Virginia.  Susannah was born

on May 21, 1771 and died March 3 or 4, 1829 in Albemarle County, Virginia.
Sarah "Sally", born March 29, 1767 and died April 10, 1820 in Bedford County, Virginia.  She was the second
wife of Samuel Poindexter married on September 11, 1798 in Albemarle County, Virginia.
Susannah "Susan", born between 1768 and 1771 Albemarle County, Virginia  She died in August of 1829 in
Stokes County, North Carolina.  Susan's first husband was Isaac Dalton, whom she married on September

8, 1789 in Albemarle County, Virginia.  Isaac Dalton was born in 1770 and died May 14, 1825, in Stokes
County, North Carolina. She married her second husband, Hezekiah Arnold on April 7, 1825.  He died on
August 14, 1844, Stokes County, North Carolina.
Elijah L. (or S.), born April 3, 1772.  He married Susannah Fretwell somewhere in Virginia.  He married
first on November 6, 1785, Susannah Crenshaw.  She was born on May 5, 1775 or 1777 and died on April
21, 1802, Albemarle County, Virginia.  Elijah married second on June 18, 1804 to Catharine Wayt. She was
born July 13, 1770 and died on January 10, 1845 in Trenton, Kentucky.  Elijah died on September 3, 1816

in Christian County, Kentucky.
Jesse E., born in 1776 in Albemarle County, Virginia.On December 18, 1797, he married Elizabeth B. Brown
Elizabeth was born April 22, 1780 or 1781.  She died on April 22, 1880 Albemarle County, Virginia.  Jesse died
in Green County, Virginia in August of 1865.
Garland S., born April 15, 1777.  Garland married Susannah Crenshaw on September 10, 1800 in Albemarle
County, Virginia.  She was born August 20, 1783 or 1784 Albemarle County, Virginia. Garland died in Nelson
County, Virginia on October 10, 1865.
Mildred "Milley", born February 28, 1779 and died on October 22, 1832 in Albemarle County, Virginia.  On
March 18, 1799, she married John Thomas Fretwell.  John died on June 26, 1837 in Albemarle County, Virginia

John Garth

John Garth, son of Judith and Thomas Garth, migrated to Scott County, Kentucky in late 1700 or early 1800.  On December 18, 1803 he signed as a witness for the will of Nathan Adams, Scott County.  He appears on the census for Scott County, Kentucky in 1810. On June 17, 1782, he married Ann Harris Rodes,daughter of John Rodes and Sarah Harris.  Ann was born on July 23, 1763 in Albemarle County, Virginia.  She was deceased by 1795, Scott County, Kentucky. John died on November 9, 1835 in Scott County, Kentucky and is buried at Walnut Hall Farm, Scott County, Kentucky.  John married second, Sarah Griffith before 1796, probably in Scott County, Kentucky.

John Garth was a private in the Virginia Militia and received a Revolutionary War pension.  In March 1789, he and his wife, Ann, sold their land in Albemarle County, Virginia and set out for Woodford County, Kentucky.  He bought some of the finest horse-breeding land - 374 acres of Kentucky Bluegrass on the waters of the Elkhorn near Georgetown.  When Scott County was formed from Woodford in 1792, John was on the first board of magistrates and was appointed a captain in the 12th Regiment of militia.  His wife Ann died 1795-1795.

Sarah, probably born about 1793, Albemarle County, Virginia. She was single in 1833.
Rodes, born March 16, 1784, Albemarle County, Virginia.  He married November 14, 1813 Lucinda J. Carigan.
Rodes died on November 14, 1846 in Wayne County, Kentucky.  He is buried in a family cemetery near

Monticello, Kentucky. Lucinda was born on October 16, 1798 and died in St. Louis, Missouri on November 18, 1864.
She is buried in the Cavalry Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
Judith, born February 15, 1786, Albemarle County, Virginia. She married on December 11, 1805 in Paris, Bourbon
County, Kentucky, second wife of Amasa Delano of Woodford County, Kentucky.  Judith died on December 24,
1828 in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.  Amasa was born on May 30, 1775 in Woodstock, Vermont and died in
Ross County, Ohio on August 26, 1830.
Nancy, born about 1790 and died after 1833.  March 30, 1813 in Madison County, Kentucky, she married Joseph
Buchannan.
Thomas, born about 1792 in Scott County, Kentucky.  Thomas married first Lester Nancy Thompson/Thomson.
She was born on February 19, 1796 in Kentucky and died on October 21, 1881, Boone County, Kentucky.  One
son, William.  Marriage ended in divorce. Thomas married second on November 4, 1826 to Joanna Lucas.  She was
born 1806 or 1808 and died January 17, 1881. Thomas died April 20, 1840, he and Joanna are buried in Paris City
Cemetery in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
Ann, born about 1794, Scott County, Kentucky.  She married in Bourbon County on January 25 to Ira Delano
(brother to Amasa).  Ann died in 1827 in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.

Daniel, born about 1796, Scott County, Kentucky. On December 13, 1819 in Lewis County,  He married Mariah
Stratton  Daniel died after July 4, 1832 and by November 1833, Oldham County, Kentucky.
Samuel, born April 15, 1798, Scott County, Kentucky. He married first on February 7, 1822 in Scott County,
Kentucky to Ann Elizabeth Elbert.  She died on October 25, 1830 in Oldham County, Kentucky.  Daniel married
second Mrs. Phillippa Leslie Coates, widow of David Garth Coates.  She was born about 1799 and died on
February 23, 1887. Samuel  died on June 5, 1851, in St. Louis, Missouri. He and Phillippa are buried at Oak Grove

Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri.
Quatilla/Quintilda, born about 1800, Scott County, Kentucky. She was the wife of William Otwell, who was born
about 1797.
Jefferson, born May 22, 1803, in Scott County, Kentucky  He married Mary Ann Russell in Fayette County,
Kentucky on December 26, 1826.  She was born on September 25, 1805 in Fayette County, Kentucky.  Jefferson
died on March 21, 1892 and Mary on September 11, 1882.  Both are buried at Columbia, Boone County, Missouri
Mildred F., born about 1805 in Scott County, Kentucky.  By 1825 she as married to Isaac Sutphin.  Mildred was
deceased by 1846 and is buried at Walnut Hall Farm, Scott County, Kentucky
Lucinda., born about 1808, Scott County, Kentucky.  She married Harvey C. Graves.  Lucinda died on July 9, 1835  
in Fayette County.
John M., born 1811 in Scott County, Kentucky.  John married September 20, 1831, in Fayette County, Kentucky,
Eliza Ann Graves.  Eliza was born on April 4, 1810 in Kentucky.  She died on March 23, 1879 in Scott County and
John died in 1898.  John and Eliza are buried in the Georgetown Cemetery, Scott County, Kentucky.
Albert Gallatin, born March 21, 1814, in Scott County, Kentucky.  He married on July 14, 1836 in Scott County,
Kentucky to Margaret Ann Lemon, who married second the Rev. J. M. Frost, December 5, 1839, Scott County,
Kentucky.  Albert died on March 21, 1838.  He is buried on Walnut Hall Farm, Scott County, Kentucky.
