CAUDILL, JONES

May 24, 1996 Brian K. Caudill
Tab I am looking for additional family information about Barilla C. JONES (b. 5/22/1877 in VA(?), m. 7/1/1895 to Henry CAUDILL in Letcher Co. at J. H. Jones, d. 1/29/1899); in particular who were her parents and siblings? Although I have no proof, I am beginning to suspect that a John and Martha JONES, who I found in the 1900 Letcher County Census, might be her parents. They were born in VA and had all but one of their 6 children listed as being born in VA. Any information would be appreciated.

ASHLEY, ECKLES, SECREST

October 26, 1996 Edward Day
Tab I'm looking for the forebears of Barbara SECREST b. 1805 in NC who married Rev. Jordan ASHLEY b. 1804 in Wilkes Co NC. Came to KY in about 1841. From eastern KY histories I got this sense of their history: Rev. Jordan ASHLEY came to Kentucky when his and Barbara SECREST's daughter Martha or Mary (they were twins) was a small girl. She remembered it very well. They lived in tents the first summer on Elkhorn Creek where now is located the town of Jenkins. Then they moved to Carr Creek.
Tab To a written query I think to the Letcher Co. Genealogical Society in about 1984, a Jean Collins of Whitesburg, KY responded that: "Elizabeth SECREST (b. June 28, 1784 and m. James ECKLES 1803, d. 1833) must have been a relative of Barbara SECREST, maybe a sister. Barbara's parents were reportedly Christian and Barbara (SIMS) SECREST." [Note: Elizabeth b. 1784, Barbara b. 1805, so perhaps not.]
Tab If Barbara was a daughter of Christian, then I think Christian was the Christian SECREST b. 1779 whose siblings were David b. 1787, Peter b. 1776, Joseph b. 1780. Their father would have been William b. 1755 whose father would have been Henry b. 1730. Does anyone know any more about this Barbara SECREST? Is Jean Collins still alive and active?

Tab I am looking for more information on Stephen and Christinna "Crissy" (FIELDS) SEXTON of Letcher and Floyd Co., KY. They are listed in the 1850 Letcher Co. census. Sometime after 1860 they moved to Floyd Co. Some of their children were William and Liberth (twins), Isabella, Mary, Hiram and Mellisa. What happened to Stephen and Crissy Fields after they left Letcher Co.? Who were their parents? After Crissy died, Stephen married a twenty year old girl by the name of Mary Jane PATTON, in Floyd Co., KY., in 1887. There was a son named Jonathan "John" SEXTON. I have been told that William married Mary PRATER, if so who were her parents?
