BENTLEY, Margaret, 93 Passed Away.
The following obituaries were submitted by Debra Baltrip. They were copied from funeral cards and/or newspaper clippings.
One of Greenup County's oldest residents, Mrs. Margaret Bentley, died last Wednesday at 11:25 at her home near Load. She was 93.
Mrs. Bentley had lived in the Load community for 51 years. She was the widow of Mose Bentley and they had moved to Load from Letcher County more than a half a century ago.
Death came after an illness of two years.
Mrs. Bentley was born Aug 15, 1863 in Wise, Virginia, a daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Adams White.
Survivors are two sons, Herbert, Load, Henry, at home, and four daughters, Elizabeth Vaughn, Portsmouth, Rhinda Vaughn, Hamden, Ohio, Nerva Bradley, Load and Bertha Bentley at home.
49 grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Load Christian Baptist Church. Rev. Ernest Burton officiated at the services.
Burial was in the Bentley Cemetery.

BUSH, Opal, Greenup, Ky - Mrs. Opal Bush, 30, wife of Clifford Bush, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday , in the home of a sister, Mrs. Leona Smallwood of near Load, Ky. She had been ill for a week.
Mr. And Mrs. Bush were residing temporaily with Mrs. Smallwood while looking for a place to live. They came to Kentucky several weeks ago from Kentucky.
Surviving besides the husband and sister are a daughter, Patricia Ann, and a brother, Ted Yonts of Whitesburg, Kentucky.
Mrs. Bush was born April 06, 1927, in McRoberts, Kentucky, to the late Holly and Mandy Collier Yonts.
Funeral services are to be held Thrusday at 2 p.m. in load Church of Christ with Rev. J.W. Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Quillen Cemetery by Riggs-Sammons Funeral Home. Friends may call at the home of the sister.

COLLIER, Bob, Uncle Bob Collier Called at Age of 81
With sorrow and regret friends and relatives this week are mourning over passing of Uncle Robert Collier who crossed the barrier around 5:30 o'clock Monday evening, May 16th after a brief illness. He was eighty- one years and one day old.
Rob Collier was born and reared within the circling hills of Letcher County and was a son of the late Wm. D. Collier, pioneer settler of this county. In early manhood he married Miss Martha Yonts, daughter of Solomon Yonts, a sister of Bill Yonts who resides on Goose Creek. His wife preceded him in death about ten years ago. To this union was born eleven children, of whom all are still living, seven sons and four daughters. The sons are Henderson and James of Greenup, Ky, Willis of Neon: Paul of Cincinnati: Sheridan of Pound, Va: and Sod and William who live in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. The daughters are Mrs. Holly Yonts and Mrs. Quiller Yonts of Neon: Mrs. Pauline Riggs of Covington, Ky: and Mrs. Rebecca Sizemore of Columbus, Ohio. All the children except three were present at the time of his death. Mr. Collier is also survived by four brothers and one sisters. They are W.B., W.K., and S.P. of Neon: W.D. Collier of Kermit, W. Va. And Mrs. W.B. Reedy of Logan, W. Va.
For several years Mr. Collier had made his home with his sons in Greenup County coming to Neon only recently to live with his daughter.
Funeral services were conducted by Revs. T. P. Johnson and Roy Hall at the home of Mrs. Quiller Yonts. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the new Johson Funeral Home and the body was laid to rest by the side of his father in the Huston Cemetery on Goose Creek.

SMALLWOOD,Jim, of Dorton, Ky, passed from this life on Monday, September 19, 1973 enroute to Jenkins Clinic Hospital, Jenkins,Ky.
He was the son of H. D. Smallwood and Lucy Ellen Mullins, born December 18, 1892 at Dorton, Ky.

Mrs. Leona Smallwood, 61, passed away Thrusday in the Norton Community Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband, Chester Smallwood, three sons, Carl Douglas Smallwood, Robert Lawerence Smallwood and Anthony Randall Smallwood, three daughters, Elizabeth Lee Courtney, Judith Elaine Mays and Debra Kay Baltrip, 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

SMALLWOOD, Margie, age 87, of Dorton, Kentucky, passed from this life on May 31, 1987 at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky.
She was the daughter of the late Jim Elkins and Polly Ann Wright Elkins, born May 6, 1900, in Myra, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Smalllwood in 1973, one infant son, two granddaughters: Linda Hampton and Joyce Andriano: one great -grandchild, Frankie Andriano:two son-in-laws: Charlie Hacker and Robert Smithy: one daughter-in-law, Leona Smallwood.
Survivors Include, five sons: Chester of Coeburn, Virginia: Charles of West Minister, S.C.: Kermit of Carleton, Michigan: Herbet of Dorton, Kentucky: Nolan of Dorton, Kentucky: four daughters: Gusta Reynolds of Dorton, Kentucky: Alka Fore of South Shore, Kentucky: Sue Hacker of Wisconsin: Sonna Smithy of Lyons, Illinois: 37 grandchildren: 62 great grandchildren: 5 great great grandchildren.
Margie was a member of the Dorton Freewill Baptist Church.

YONTS, Holly P. N., Is Called by Death At Memphis Hospital.
Services were held Sunday, Dec, 26th for Holly P.N.Yonts who died Tuesday, Dec 21 at the Kennedy Veterans Hospital at Memphis, Tenn.
Mr. Yonts who was 70 years of age was the son of the late Solomon and Jennie Yonts. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War and had lived in and around Neon most of his life.
He is survived by his widow, Amanda Yonts, one son, Ted, of Millstone, Ky and two daughters, Mrs. Chester Smallwood and Mrs. Clifford Bush, both of Dorton, Ky, and five grandchildren, four brothers Quiller, William Henry, Judge and Charley Yonts.
Services were held at the home by the Rev. Bill Browning and at the cemetery by Lonesome Pine Lodge No, 884F. & A.M

YONTZ, Ted, son of Mandy Collier and Holly Yontz, was born at Hemphill, Kentucky, November 19, 1905, passed from this life at the Whitesburg Hospital, December 22, 1977, being 72 years, 1 month and 3 days of age at his passing.
Ted has been sick for the past 6 months, real sick for the past couple of weeks.
Ted was a retired miner, having worked for the South East Coal Co, about 22 years.
He was a deacon in the Presbyterian Church, a member of Whitesburg Lodge NO. 754 F. & A.M.
Ted was married to Hazel Adams, November 27, 1935
Ted is survived by his wife Hazel of Whitesburg, daughter, Peggy Joan Larson of Putnam, Ill,. Son Steve Yontz of Frankfort, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Teds' son Robert preceeded him in death at Sandusky, Ohio, just this past July.
