Anderson, T-SGT Douglas R. passed from this life on July 3, 1970 while serving with the United States Air Force in Phu Cat, Vietnam of an apparent heart attack. He was the son of James Lee and Dora S. Anderson, born January 17, 1930 at Jenkins, KY. Douglas entered the United States Air Force on Feb. 17, 1951. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dora S. Anderson of Jenkins, KY. Two children, Justin of New York, and Kay of Cincinnati, Ohio. One brother, Howard Anderson of Jenkins, KY, one sister, Inez Brown of Jefferson, Maryland and a host of relatives and friends. Interment Hall Cemetery, Ermine, KY
Anderson, Emogene age 60 of Jenkins, Kentucky passed from this life on Saturday March 8, 1986 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Arvil W. Boggs and Beulah (Davidson) Boggs Mink, born June 21, 1925, at Jenkins, Kentucky. Survivors are her mother and stepfather, Pete Mink of Jenkins, KY. Her husband Howard Anderson of Jenkins, Kentucky; one son Howard Eugene Anderson, Jr. of Birmingham, Al; four grandchildren; one brother, Wendell Davidson Boggs of Jenkins, KY; one sister, Leah Jane Haynes of Bristol, VA. one step-brother, Franklin Mink of Bean Station, TN; two step-sisters: Pat Guilfoyle of Sparta, WI and Gwen Harrell of Hopkinsville, KY. Bellomy, Winnie Ann age 91, padded from this life on Tuesday, February 5, 1985 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, KY. She was the daughter of the late Isaiah Plummer and Sarah (Davis) Plummer born September 15, 1893 in Ellston, OH. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Avery Bellomy on August 13, 1969. Survivors are one son, Harold Bellomy of Knoxville, TN; two daughters; Lucille Tucker of Jenkins, KY and Ruth Quillen of Kingsport, TN.; seven grandchildren and six great-grand children. Winnie was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Paintsville, KY.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Willard Beverley who passed on January 31,1967. Surviving is one son William M. Beverley of California. He was the son of the late Henry Brummett and Mary Jane (Boggs) Brummett, born July 5, 1905 at Bold Camp of Wise County, VA. Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Jack Brummett of Austin, TX; and four grandchildren: Don and Scott Brummett, Tamara Brown and Leah Parker; a sister Julia Jenny of Sheridan, WY.
Corder, Lillian Margaret passed from this life on December 15, 1971 of an apparent heart attack. She was the daughter of Jerry and Dorothy (Cox) Love, born January 29, 1912 at Johnson City, TN. She is survived by her husband, Arnie E. Corder of Jenkins, KY; two sons, Jack of Scottsville, AZ; Jerry of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Mrs. Ula Duncan, Jenkins, KY; Gertrude Breeze of Daytona Beach, FL; one brother, Arthur Love of Los Angeles, CA. Mrs. Corder is also survived by five granddaughters.
Crase, Alpha Wallen, funeral services for Alpha Wallen Crase were conducted from the Chapel of Pluaski Funeral Home on Sunday, December 2, 1990 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Robert Browning officiating. Burial followed in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Alpha Wallen Crase age 89 was born on August 22, 1901 in Clinchport,VA. She was a resident of Jenkins, KY, an active member of the Jenkins Women's Club and a retired beautician. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jenkins, KY. Alpha was the daughter of Ritter Combs Wallen and Granville Perle Wallen. She died on Thursday, November 29, 1990 after a lengthy illness in Humana Lake Cumberland. She was the wife of Benjamin Hays Crase. Survivors include daughters Louise C. Johnson and Joey C. Bentley both of Science Hill, KY.

Dann, Kathleen (Miller) passed from this life on Monday, April 29, 1985 at the Jenkins Community Hospital in Jenkins, KY. She was the daughter of the late Roscoe Martin Miller and Stella (Gambill) Miller, born December 28, 1915 at Grayson, KY. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Dann, on July 30, 1974. Survivors include one daughter, Kay D. Mahan of Vandalia, OH; two grandchildren: Tony and Tracy Mahan of Vandalia, OH; one brother; Roscoe Miller of Crystal River FL; four sisters: Cora Lee Hancock of Jenkins, KY, Irene Weeks of Jenkins, KY, Eloise Steil and Margouriete Garrett of Ellicott City, MD. Kathleen was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She held numerous offices in the church including Chairperson of the Council on Ministries of the Church and Superintendent of the Sunday School. Kathleen was a member of the Methodist Women where she worked diligently so that the outreach of the Church could be extended.

He was the son of the late Elizabeth Beverly Davidson, born Feb. 1, 1925 at Jenkins, KY. Survivors are his wife, Ruth (Tackett) Davidson of Jenkins; two sons: Michael and Mark Davidson both of Jenkins, KY; two grandchildren: Mike and Chris of Jenkins,KY; one brother, James Davidson of Bristol, VA; one sister, Mildred Tackett of Jenkins. Larry was a retired mine foreman of the Beth-Elkhorn Coal Corporation and a Veteran of WWII.

Davis, Carl Stanton age 66, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away from this life on Wednesday, February 27, 1985 at his residence in Jenkins, KY. He was the son of the late Hugh Davis and Susie (King) Davis born September 7, 1918 at Fairmont, WV. Surviving Carl is his wife Edith (Wright) Davis of Ormond Beach, F. and formerly of Jenkins, KY; one brother, Walter R. Davis of Finleyville, PA; one sister, Helen O'Brien of Clairton, PA; and one niece, Deborah. Carl was a retired Federal Government employee of thirty years having lived fifteen years in Washington, D.C. and fifteen years in Hyattsville, MD. He was a past President of Belair Golf and Country Club in Bowie, MD; member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church, Jenkins,KY; was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant from the United States Marine Corp having served in World War II.
Day, Nannie (Banks) died on January 17,1942 after being in very poor health for a number of years. Mrs. Day was the daughter of J.F. Banks of Cowan and was widely connected throughout the county. She was the mother of five children, four of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Lester, of this city and her husband, Joe I. She also leaves two young grandsons who live at Fleming. They are Joe Ray and Richard Martin, the sons of Oramus Day who died July 2, of the past year. Funeral services were held Sunday at 12:00 at the First Baptist Church, Whitesburg, the ministers L.O. Griffith, Joe T. Sudduth and W. H. Poore officiating at the service. Burial followed at the John Day Cemetery on Big Cowan (Actually buried in the Dinah Blair Branch Cemetery) under the direction of Craft Funeral Home. Mrs. Day was well known and loved in this county. Before her illness she was very active helping her husband in his business interests, and making a home for her children. She often attended church and other public meetings. She was not affiliated to any church but had expressed the desire to Rev. Griffith recently that if and when her health would permit she wanted to be baptized. She also stated that for several years she had lived a Christian life and was ready to go when called. She had been confined to her home for quite a while, and had endured a great deal of suffering during that time. The past few months before her death it became evident that her life could not be prolonged for any length of time, although all that medical science would do for her had been done. Mrs. Day will be greatly missed in the community for although she had been unable to go out often friends called and always enjoyed a visit with her. She was a member of one of Letcher County's best-known families.

Day, Oramus Richard, the funeral of Oramus Day, son of Joe I. Day and Nannie (Banks) Day, who died July 2, 1941, was held the following Saturday, July 5, at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg, at 10 o'clock, with Ministers L.O. Griffith, J.T. Harmon, and W.H. Poore officiating. Pallbearers, chosen from among his best friends, were Leland Jones, Warren Sergent, Smith Setzer, Tommy Thomas, Bill Tucker and Elmer Moore. Honorary pall bearers selected were W.M. Mullins, Bill Blair, Joe Reynolds, Nat Craft, Willie Dawahare, Paul Vermillion, Major Day, Walter Kreis, A.K. Frankin, Follace Fields, Doyle Hogg, Hiram Williams, Sam Collins, Jr., R.P. Price, and Charlie Quinlan. Flower girls were chosen from among the friends of Oramus and the family. The many beautiful floral offerings made spoke more fluently than words of the high esteem in which Oramus was held. Burial took place Saturday afternoon in Blair Cemetery on Cowan, which is the family cemetery. His two sons, Richard Martin and Joe Ray Day of Fleming, KY survive him. (Newspaper)

She was the daughter of Sam Holt and Mary Elizabeth Holt, born January 11, 1894 at Clinton, TN. Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles Dunlap on October 5, 1970. She was also preceded in death by two children. Survivors include, one grandchild, Mary Evelyn Roberts of Jenkins, KY. Mary was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church, member of the Pine Mountain Chapter No. 247, Order of the Eastern Star. Looney, Nathan R. age 38 of Jenkins, Letcher County, KY Deputy Coroner, Embalmer and Funeral Director of Polly & Craft Funeral Home, died from an accidental drowning in Clinch River, near Sneedville, TN on Monday, July 30 1990. He was the son of Elmer Looney and Lillie Mae (Knight) Looney, born August 19, 1951. In Toner, Kentucky. Survivors are his wife, Vickie (Ellis) Looney and three children, Nathan Ray, II, Jeffery Leslie and Darla Elizabeth, all at home. His parents, Elmer and Lillie Mae Looney of McRoberts; two sisters: Patsy Allen of Bowling Green and Darla Mae Sexton of Jenkins; three brothers: Danny Looney of Jenkins, Elmer, Jr. of Kenosha, WI. And Darrell of Newark , CA. Nathan served eight years in the United States Air Force. He later joined the staff of the Polly & Craft Funeral Home where he served his apprenticeship and then attended and graduated form the Mid- American College of Funeral Service. She was the daughter of the late Ira Ison and Mary (Swindall) Ison, born December 15, 1885, in Burdine KY. Preceding her in death was her husband, John Meigs Martin in 1957. Survivors are her daughter, June Childers and son in law Albert Childers of Jenkins, two grandchildren: Richard M. Day and Joe R. Day of Michigan; four great grandchildren: Meigs M., Michael Joe, Melanie Marie and Richard M. Day, Jr. Two sisters; Georgia Cantrill, Huntington WV, and Bobbie Andrews of Knoxville, IA. A brother, Carlton E. Ison of Louisa, KY. Bird was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church for over seventy-five years. Interment in Johnson Memorial Cemetery, Pikeville, KY.

Snapp, Carlos Victor age 101, of Jenkins, Y., retired Superintendent of Jenkins Independent Schools, passed from this life on Sunday, January 7, 1990 at the Appalachian Regional Health Care, Whitesburg, KY. He was born in Carlisle, KY. On December 7, 1888. On June 4, 1926 he married Gussie Webb who preceded him in death in July of 1955. Survivors are two nieces; three brothers-in-law: John Webb of Columbus, OH; Charles Webb of Florence, KY. David Webb of Williamsport, KY.; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lucille Helton of Cincinnati, OH. And Ruth Handy of Van Lear, KY. Mr. Snapp came to Jenkins from Van Lear in July of 1929, where he served as Superintendent of Schools. After leaving Jenkins Schools, he served as Pupil Personnel for Pike County Schools until his retirement. He was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist church, Charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Jenkins, Pine Mountain Chapter Order of Eastern Star.No.247, Jenkins member of the Masonic Lodge in Carlisle, KY. Also, he was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Snapp will be remembered for his dedication to the education of children, his love of music and his love of God. Interment, Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, KY.

Stapleton, Willaiam A. Division Supt. Of Underground Mines, for the Elkhorn Division of Beth-Elkhorn Coal Corp, Jenkins, KY. Died at the Wise Regional Hospital on November 5, 1970 at 6:30 PM. Mr. Stapleton was born in Nickelsville, VA and at the time of his death was 57 years of age. His parents were Auborn Stapleton, who preceded him in death by a number of years, and Fannie (Gilmer), his mother of Kingsport, TN. who survives him. Survivors also include his wife, Mrs. Gladys G. Stapleton of Jenkins, KY., Two daughters, Mary Blake of Okinawa, Nancy Prunty of Lexington, KY. One son, Billy at home. Also surviving are a brother, Charles Stapleton of TN. And a half brother, James Gilmer of Chicago, IL., also seven grandchildren. He had been with Beth-Elkhorn and Consolidation Coal Company for Twenty-seven years and had spent nine years with Clinchfield Coal Company of Dante, VA. He was a member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge No. 856 and a member of the Lonesome Pine Council of the Boy Scouts of America in which he spent many hours of volunteer work. Burial in the Temple Hill Cemetery of Castlewood, VA.
Stults, Alvin Estes age 72 of Jenkins, KY., passed from this life on Friday, April 17, 1987, at the Veterans Hospital, Lexington, KY. He was born September 4, 1914 in Sparta, TN. Early in life, he was married to Carrie Gibson, who proceeded him in death on June 2, 1969. He later married Gertrude Beverly who survives him. Other survivors are one son, Alvin W. Stults of Winchester, and two grandchildren. One sister, Josie Himphrey of Dayton, OH. Alvin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jenkins, KY., for many years. He had served, as Sunday School Superintendent for many years until his health would no longer let him serve. He was also a Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church where he was past president of the United Methodist Men. After serving in World War II, he became a member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge and the El Hasa Shriners Temple in Ashland, KY. Survivors are her husband, children and six grandchildren; three sisters: Aileen Wright, Cherlette Elkins and Phyllis Elkins; five brothers: Elmon Potter, Enoch Potter, Gale Potter, R.V. Potter and Jimmy Dale Potter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jenkins, KY. Stella possessed a loving ability to brighten the lives of all who knew her. She had God-given talents which she shared with everyone. She did so by her commitment to God, and the Church.
