The Elder James Dixon Cemetery
on Elk Creek
Description: The Elder James Dixon (Dickson) Cemetery on Elk Creek is a family cemetery located on the west side of road 3408, about 0.8 miles north off of highway 7. It has a chainlink fence around it.
Location: Approximately 37° 08' 58" North Latitude and 82° 59' 08" West Longitude.
Directions: Take highway 15 north, out of Whitesburg, to highway 7 and turn left. Travel westward on highway 7, along Rockhouse Creek, for about 8 miles to road 3408, just past Blackey, and turn right. Travel northward on road 3408, along Elk Creek, for about 0.8 miles. The cemetery is up on the hill to the left. A narrow driveway leads up the hill to the cemetery gate. The gate enters the cemetery from the right front.
Misc. Notes: This cemetery is laid out in two distinct sections; newer more recent headstones are on the left and older hand-carved headstones are on the right. Most of the older headstones are illedgable; therefore, the headstones listed below are all in the newer section unless otherwise noted.
