Description: The Boatright Cemetery near the mouth of Dry Fork is a small family cemetery located off of highway 588, just south of Dry Fork. The cemetery has a chainlink fence around it and the gate faces southward.
Location: Approximately 37° 07' 04" North Latitude and 82° 52' 29" West Longitude.
Directions: Take highway 15, just north of Whitesburg, to road 3401. Turn left on road 3401 and travel westward along Dry Fork for about 0.8 miles to highway 588. Turn left on highway 588 and head southward for about 0.25 miles; the cemetery is located on the hill off to the left (not normally visible coming from this direction because of trees and heavy foliage). This cemetery is only a few yards south and down the hill from the Watty Caudill Cemetery. The gate enters the left side of the cemetery.
Misc. Notes: The cemetery only contains five graves, but is laid out in three rows.

Note (1): An oval shaped picture of Leonard and Gladys is located at the center of the headstone. William "Leonard" Boatwright was the son of Rufus E. and Elizabeth (Adams) Boatright. Gladys (Cornett) Boatwright was the daughter of Henry D. and Doshie (Adams)(Boatright) Cornett. They were both killed in an automobile accident. A bronze foot plaque reads as follows:
WILLIAM L BOATRIGHT KENTUCKY TEC 4 US ARMY WORLD WAR II OCT 4 1904 MAY 5 1973 |
---|
Note (2): It is ironic that the military plaque spells Leonard's last name without the "W" since it is said that the military inadvertently added the "W" to his last name on all of their documents. So, rather than going to the trouble of getting all of the government documents corrected, he chose to start spelling his last name with the "W".
