I'm looking for information on any Harneys. They lived in Harrison County, Kentucky from the early 1800's on. Charlotte Harney was my great-grandmother. She married William Smith in about 1895 and they had three daughters: Bess, Mabel (married Joseph Fay), and May (married Claude McCauley). There are lots of descendents of these three women who are still living. My father told me that there was a Harney who was a general in the Revolutionary War, but I think that is a family legend that grew with each generation, since I can't find any General Harney! Is anyone else researching this family or can anyone point me in the right direction for how to find anything about this family before 1800? I am new at this genealogy thing and would really appreciate some help!
