Is anyone researching DUNN family in Harrison and Scott Counties? I have some connected information on Jack DUNN and his wife Maggie DUNGAN and their children. Jack had a brother named Kelly (b 1882/d1964) who married Sudie Smith (b 1885/d 1979). Kelly and Sudie are buried at Raven Creek Cemetery in Harrison Co. Also have lots of unconnected information on various DUNNs buried in and around Harrison and Scott Counties. Would be glad to share what I have.

I am trying to research Dunn's in Harrison county, but I don't have much to go on except that Andrew Jackson Dunn and his wife Lucy Catherine Morris had three children that ended up in Cynthiana. I think Andrew and Lucy each died around 1900 or so. Their children were Cecil Dunn who married Edyth Courtney and I know for sure they raised their family in Cynthiana, KY. Whether his parents were originally from that town, I don't know. Cecil's older sister was Nanny and older brother was Sydney. Any help or direction would be appreciated!

Friday, February 19, 1999 I have posted my research of Nathan Rawlings on the internet at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/w/i/e/Ed-Wiessing/index.html Nathan settled in what later became Harrison/Pendleton Counties, KY about 1787. Read my stuff and you will see how involved he was in local affairs from then until just after 1800. Nathan died in Lawrence County, IL and his descendants sprouted out from there. Please take a look and tell me if I need additions or corrections. Thanks

The COOK families that appeared in the 1850 Owen Co, Ky census had relocated there from Harrison Co, Ky in the late 1840,s, as verified by Harrison and Owen Co's Tax Records. The families were those of Aaron and Hannah Cook, Joseph and Ruth Cook, William and Cynthia Cook and Shelton and his new bride Mary Layton Cook; Shelton the apparent son of William and Cynthia. These families were obviously linked by close ancestral bonds, as indicated by Harrison Co deed records and property grouping on Mill Creek. There were 2 other Cook families in Owen Co in the 1850 census, those of Norbonne and Judith Markham Cook, Sr, and Norbonne L. and Amanda Cook, Jr. These two families did not appear on the Harrison Co tax List thru 1850; which, on the basis of other records, suggests their pre-Owen Co roots were in Berkeley, Chesterfield Co's, Va. It appears they are extended family to the families of Aaron, Joseph, William and Shelton Cook. As this research continues, it is expected to uncover family links either in Va or Pa. Several clues as to the pre-Harrison Co ancestral presence of the 1850 Owen Co Cook families are provoded by an inspection of the Harrison Co Tax Lists and Deeds from 1794-1850. The very distinctive name of Coleman Cook appears on the 1811 - 1818 Harrison Co Tax List, and then again in 1846, 1847. A Bennet Cook of York Co, Va had sons Thomas, 12/23/1767; Coleman, 3/3/1773; and Bennet, 10/27/1775. In conjunction with these records, the Scott Co , Ky Tax List shows a Coleman Cook in 1797 and two Coleman Cook's in 1799. In Harrison Co Deed Book 6, page 444, 11/11/1819, a James Coleman is a co-executor for Esther McMillan, acting to sell a tract of land in Harrison Co unty on Mill Creek to Joseph Cook for $1.00. The sum of these clues consistently suggest that the 1850 Owen Co Cook families had their origin in York Co, Va. In interest or knowledge to better define and complete the ancestries of these Cook and related family ancestries?
