Welcome to Harrison County, KYGenWeb
Family Genealogies
Harrison County records stored at the Kentucky Historical Society Library there is confirmation of part of the data found in other places. In addition, there is a book there with biographical sketches of certain people such as Newton Henry and Lewis Henry and Lorenzo McKenny. The information in these sometimes confirms and sometimes confuses the items found in other places. History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, by Robert Peter, M.D., edited by William Henry Perrin, originally published in Chicago in 1882 contains short bios of several Henrys.
The following are Henry records found in Harrison County

Show John and Wm. Henry first appearing on
Harrison County rolls 1797, with John owning 200 acres on Raven
Creek
In 18-03 Wm. has 100 acres added and in 1808
it becomes 190 acres
This same year John, Jr. has 100 acres and in 1815 James Henry shows 117
acres. Prior entries for James showed only a horse and in 1813 the
entry of
"Capt. Hedger Co." Presumably this refers
to his servics in the War of 1812, which is also mentioned in Perrin's entry
for Newton Henry, page 710

1866.
L. M. Henry (Lewis Madison Henry) first son of James Henry and Mary "Polly" Juett, who had stated his father was James Henry, who came out from Virginia with his father John Henry and settled on the middle fork of the Raven Creek. Newton Henry and J. Henry as Administrators. Items were sold to W. J. Henry. Land settlement includes land orignally bought by William Kinnman of Ravencreek in 1800.
Perrin's Sketches p. 710-711
Newton Henry farmer, born Harrison County,
Kentucky on November 5, 1822, grandfather, Thomas Henry came from Virginia
and settled on the middle fork of
Raven Creek, husbandman . . "Newton Henry
spent his boyhood upon his father's farm, receiving what education could
be gleaned from the country schools of that day. He married Elizabeth,
daughter of Pollard and Louisa Crosthwait McKenny, of Harrison County, by
whom he had three children; the only surviving one, James, was born August
15, 1846 (Why does he not mention his son Pollard, who was still alive?)
Mr. Henry has always been an ardent Republican. During the year
1864 he enlisted under Capt. Thomas Musselman, of the Harrison County Home
Guards. "James Henry, father of Newton, was born in Virginia, and came
out with his father, settling near him in the same part of Harrison County.
He bore an honorable part in the war of 1812-1815, but was spared to
his family for more than half a centry after its close. He died in
the country where most of his life had been spent, November 3, 1866 (Graveston
inscribed "Oct, 31, 1866"
Conclusion: James Henry was undoubtedly the father of Newton, but his grandfather mentioned as "Thomas" by Newton and as "John" by L. M. both in Perrin's sketches, was probably named John Thomas. The Pollard Mac Henry family bable lists him as John Thomas Henry, father of James Henry, father of Newton Henry (who married Elizabeth McKenney) and Pollard Mac Henry (who married Mary Frances Courtney). His son's names of Thomas and John seem to indicate this is true.
