Elisha Swinford Family

Elisha Swinford was born 1760 in England.  With his wife, Thankful Doane, moved from Rowan County, North Carolina to Bourbon County, Kentucky
in the early 1792. On January 4, 1794, Elisha purchased land situated in Bourbon County on the waters of the Licking from Alexander Robertson.
This property adjoined Benjamin Neeley.  On July 1, 1796, Elisha, then in newly formed Harrison County, sold his land on south fork of the Licking River
to Benjamin Neeley.  

Elisha died young on January 18, 1813 in Harrison County, Kentucky. The sales bill and inventory of his estate can be located in Harrison County,
Will Book A, 1795-1818.  Thankful Swinford died at the home of her son, Samuel, on March 7, 1854 in Putnam County, Indiana

Sarah "Sally" Swinford, born November 28, 1786, Virginia
Polly Swinford, born 1786.
James Madison Swinford, born February 16, 1788, South Carolina. Living in Madison, Putnam County,
Indiana in 1850 with wife, Mary, and children; James A., Katherine, Davis, Sarah E. William H., and
Josephus.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Swinford, born 1793, Kentucky
John Swinford, born March 4, 1795, Bourbon County, Kentucky.  He married Polly Adams in Harrison
County on January 5, 1808 and moved with his family to Putnam County, Indiana.  He is listed in
Madison Township 1850 with his wife; Polly.  Also in the household are daughters; Nancy, and Polly Ann
Classon, married John in Harrison County on January 16, 1834, and mother-in-law, Sally Adams, 85,
born Virginia.
William Swinford, born October 8, 1798, Harrison County, Kentucky. On December 22, 1826 he
married Julian Noland, born July 4, 1808.  They had children; Eliza, William, Mary Jane, born
December 25, 1829 and John Patterson, born April 8, 1829.
John Patterson married Sarah E. Terry on October 24, 1853 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  Sarah,
the daughter of William and Polly Terry, was born in Spotsylvania, Virginia.  She died in December
of 1859.  John Patterson Swinford died in Fleming County on December 8, 1897.  John and Sarah
Swinford had children; George W., born 1848 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, McCalla "M.C.", born
March 24, 1857 in Harrison County, Kentucky and Elizabeth Berrenice, born February 27, 1859.
Elizabeth B. Swinford married George William Faulconer on March 21, 1883 in Harrison County,
Kentucky.
Nancy Swinford, born May 1800, Harrison County, Kentucky
Samuel S. Swinford, born 1804, Kentucky.  Living next to brother John in 1850. Mother Thankful is also
living in the household.
Elisha "Jerry" Swinford, born March 11, 1805, Harrison County, Kentucky. Married Mary Grogan in
Putnam County, Indiana on September 7, 1829.  He is found on 1840 census in Marion, Putnam County,
Indiana.
Joshua Swinford, born 1807, Harrison County, Kentucky.
