Selected deaths from the Cynthiana Weekly News 1854 - 1872
Thursday, June 8, 1854
Mrs. Elizabeth R. Nesbit, consort of Mr. Fleming
Nesbit and 2nd. daugher of Esau and Mary Boyers, departed this life at her
residence, Dry Ridge, Grant County, on Sunday, May 14, 1854, in the 23rd.
year of her age.
Thursday, May 1856
Mrs. Amilda Clarke, consort of Mr. Wm. Clarke
of Williamstown and eldest daughter of Mr. Esau and Mrs. Mary Boyers of the
same place, aged 30 years, 4 months, and 25 days, departed this life on Tuesday
morning, August 15, 1856 after great suffering for eleven weeks with a disease
that baffled medical skill. She left behind scores of kindred and friends
in both Harrison and Grant counties.
May 13, 1869
Last Monday a respectable citizen of Grant
County named Boyers dropped dead in the streets of Williamstown.
July 6, 1871
In Sherman, Grant County, June 16 of consumption,
Mrs. Ruth Lemmon, wife of B. F. Lemmon.
July 20, 1871
Sunday, June 4, Mrs. Sarah S. Smith of Williamtown,
wife of Wm. Smith of this town. Born in 1824 in the southern part of
Kentucky, her maiden name was Smith. She married Wm. Smith in 1841
and left one son James P., 2 daughters Mrs. Susan F. Sparks and Mrs. Mary
A. Williams.
February 15, 1872
James H. Elliott of Williamstown died at his
residence on January 29, aged about 52. He was the son of Jno. Elliott,
deceased, many years since a hatter of Cynthiana. He leaves 6 children
and a wife. His widow was the daughter of the late Granvill Cason of Harrison
County.
October 17, 1872
Miss Anne Gregg, next to youngest child of
Nathaniel Gregg, deceased, late of Williamstown, died at the home of her
brother-in-law Richard M. Lowe in this county 4 miles east of Williamstown
on Thursday, September 27 of consumption.
October 17, 1872
On Saturday, September 29, a child of Mr. D.
Green who resides 6 miles west of Williamstown, died of diptheria.
