Dr. Archibald Curry
Dr. Archibald Curry was born January 21,
1727/28 in Scotland. He married Sara McDonald, daughter of James and
Mary McDonald. Sara also born in Scotland on August 29, 1738.
The Clan MacDonald/McDonald, the largest of
the Highland clans, is said to be descended from the great warrior - chief,
Somerland. Sara McDonald remained

for a number of years. Most of their children were born there. By

James Curry was born 1758 in Delaware.
He married Miss Manlove, born in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian,
Scotland. They migrated to Scott County, Kentucky with his parents. James, being eldest child, inherited money, slaves and land. He became a surveyor and owned land in Kentucky, Southern Illinois and Mississippi. Before his death, in partnership with David Ross, surveyed and purchased thousands of acres of land in what became Kentucky. He is listed as James Currie in Kentucky records. James Curry died on September 30, 1790 at Harmer's Defeat in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
His only son, James Rolland Curry was born
about 1789 at Bryant's Station, Fayette County, Kentucky. He married

Jane Curry was born 1764 in Delaware.
She married Moses Archibald Yell, son of Pierce and Anna Hoag Yell
in Talbot County, Maryland. He was born on January 18, 1746/47 in Essex County, Massachusetts. Moses moved the family from Talbot County to Rockingham County, North Carolina. From there they moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee and then to Shelbyville in Bedford County, Tennessee where Moses purchased 750 acres of land. Jane and Moses had a son Archibald H. Yell, who became the first governor of Arizona. Moses Yell died in Watrace, Bedford County, Tennessee in September of 1817. |

Alexander Curry was born October
14, 1770 in Baltimore, Maryland. He married Elizabeth Nutter, daughter
of Robert and and Sara Bagwell Nutter, in 1799. Elizabeth was born in Dover, Delaware on August 26, 1776. Alexander first purchased a tract of land on Lexington Pike and lived there until 1830. He moved his family to Illinois and settled in Brown County, then a part of Schuyler County. He entered 2,000 acres which included the present site of Mt. Sterling and erected a double log house on a lot now occupied by the Christian Church. Alexander served as the first Justice of the Peace and Postmaster. Elizabeth and Alexander had the following children: Daniel; Robert N.; John R., born October 19, 1803, Scott County, Kentucky; Olivia; Sara; Nancy; Leah; Mary and Harriett. Alexander died in Mt. Sterling in 1842 and Elizabeth on August 28, 1846. |
Nancy Curry was born 1776 (twin)
in Delaware. She married William McHatton, son of John and Martha Lytle
McHatton, on January 7, 1796 in Harrison County, Kentucky. They had the following children: Milton, b: 1797; Harvey, b: 1801; Martha, b: 1803 and Rev. James Archibald, b: May 7, 1804 - d: June 30, 1887, Greenton Valley, Lafayette County, Missouri. |
