William S. Underwood
This
family of William S. Underwood can be traced to Thomas Underwood of England.
William S. (some believe middle name was Sedgwick, however this
is unproven) son of John Underwood,
was
born 1776 and deceased by 1850. He and wife Lucy Poindexter (daughter
of Gabriel and Mary Swift Poindexter, born 1774 in Virginia, had seven children
born in Franklin County prior to
their
migration to Indiana. Another six children were born in
Indiana.

July 31, 1862, James Underwood married his second wife, Martha A. Hendricks,
born June 10, 1826, died July 31, 1862. James and Martha had four children. Eleanor, born January 10, 1853 Lucy, born January 10, 1853 William, born September 14, 1854 Moses, born April 26, 1857 |
| James
married his third wife, Adeline McFadden, on July 16, 1863. Five children
