John Chapman Herndon Family

John Chapman Herndon, son of Alvin and Susan, was born on September 15, 1809 in Fauquier County, Virginia.  He married Margaret Jane Clarke, daughter of Joseph Clarke and
Harriet Julian. Their marriage bond was recorded on October 10, 1839 in Franklin County.  John served Frankfort and Franklin County as Clerk in 1836, County Attorney in 1839
and was elected County Judge in 1851.  He died of pneumonia in Franklin County, Kentucky on March 25, 1856.  His will is recorded in Franklin County Will Book 3, page 11
on March 16, 1856. Margaret Clarke Herndon was born on October 13, 1817 in Franklin County. She died on July 15, 1860 and was buried beside her husband John C. Herndon
in section M of the Frankfort Cemetery .

Children of John C. and Margaret Clarke Herndon

John Chapman Herndon, Jr. was born on September 23, 1841 in Franklin County, Kentucky.  On December 17, 1862 in Mason County, Kentucky,
he married Juliana Whitcroft Dimmitt.  She was born in Lewisburg, Kentucky on June 29, 1847.  In 1884, John served as Vice-President of Bradley
& Gilbert Company, Louisville, Kentucky.  Juliana died on March 22, 1910 and was buried in the family plot at the Frankfort Cemetery.  On August
1, 1905 John died and was buried beside his wife and parents.
Margaret J. "Maggie" Herndon  was born in 1845 in Franklin County, Kentucky.  She married Archibald Dixon, Jr. of Henderson, Kentucky on
December 14, 1864.  Archibald, the second son of Archibald and Elizabeth Robertson Cabell Dixon, was born on March 4, 1844 in Henderson
County, Kentucky. He attended Sayre Institute in Frankfort and later the University of Toronto.  He graduated from Louisville Medical College in
1877 and moved to Henderson to start his practice.  He and Maggie raised four children:  Wynn, Archibald, Maggie and Julia.  Dr. Dixon died
in Henderson on June 9, 1924 and Maggie on November 18, 1932.
Joseph C.Herndon was born in 1848.
Annie M. Herndon was born on September 26, 1850 in Franklin County and died there on November 11, 1929.  She is buried in section M of the
Frankfort Cemetery.  Annie was a member of the DAR #104813
Felicia Clarke Herndon was born on October 23, 1855 in Franklin County, Kentucky.  On February 1, 1856, she married Rev. Epaphroditus Julian.
He was called Paph by his family and friends. Felicia died on January 18, 1915 and Paph not until February 15, 1925.  Both are buried in the

Frankfort Cemetery.  At some point the family had lived in Maderson, South Dakota for one year.  Children Margaret and John Herndon Julian
were sent to the University of South Dakota.  There Margaret met and married William Edom Latin.  Margaret and William are also buried in the
Frankfort Cemetery.
