Benjamin Temple Elliott Family

Colonel Thomas Elliott, served in the Revolutionary War from Virginia.  He is believed to be one of the sons of a James Elliott. For his service, he received a military warrant for two thousand acres in Kentucky located on the south fork of the Licking River.  Thomas Elliott married Mollie Temple about 1765 in Virginia and six children are known; Temple, Thomas, Catherine, William, Benjamin and Agnes. In the early 1800's, Thomas Elliott moved his family to Kentucky and settled on this land. Son, Benjamin, migrated to Kentucky with his family. It is not know if other Elliott children came with their parents.

Temple Elliott the eldest son (not to be confused with Benjamin Temple Elliott) married first to Agnes Hill (daughter of John Hill and Mary Mollie Elliott).  Mollie Elliott was a sister of Thomas Elliott who married Mollie Temple.  Temple married second around 1811 to the widow Sarah Scandrett (Moore) Braxton.  Sarah was the widow of Carter Braxton, Jr. His father Carter, Sr. was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Carter Braxton Sr's. mother was Mary Carter, who was the daughter of the famous and wealthy Robert "King" Carter of Virginia. Temple Elliott most likely lived and died in Virginia.  A Temple Ellioitt over the age of 45 is found on the 1820 census for King William County, Virginia census Information on Temple submitted by - Bill Davidson

Youngest son, Benjamin Temple Elliott was born about 1780 in King William County, Virginia, married Ann Louisa Elliott about 1815, although, no marriage bond or minister return has been located.  Ann Louisa was born about 1795 in Westmoreland County, Virginia and was the daughter of James Elliott. The 1850 census records indicate Benjamin and Ann had the following children all born in Franklin County; Benjamin Temple, Jr., born 1818, Elizabeth, born 1820, Thomas, born 1828, Lucy A, born 1832, Virginia C., born 1834 and Cordelia, born 1839.  Ann Louisa Elliott did not appear on census with this family.  It is believe she died prior to 1850.  Benjamin Elliott, Sr. was 82 years of age in 1860, however, he does not appear in 1870.

On September 18, 1848, Benjamin T. Elliott, Jr. married Pauline Ann North . Ann, who was born in Carroll County, Kentucky on January 13, 1828 and the daughter of Henry North, a southern plantation owner. In 1850 Benjamin, his wife Ann and their young daughter, Mary Ann were living in the household of his elderly father, Ben Elliott, Sr.  Apparently after the death of Benjamin Temple Elliott, Sr., sometime between 1850-1860, Benjamin, Jr. moved from the farm.  His occupation in 1860 was listed as a Hotel Keeper. By 1870 the family was back on the farm. During the Civil War the Elliott farm was occupied by Union troops. All necessary provisions were confiscated for use by the army.  It is believed, Ben, Jr. fought in the Civil War as a Colonel, however, this service has not been proven. The 1870 census indicates their nine children were; Mary Ann, born 1849, Benjamin T., born 1851, Joseph born 1853, Elizabeth, born 1855, Imogene, born 1857, William, born 1859, Rose, born 1862, James, born 1865 and Edwin, born 1870 all in Franklin County, Kentucky.  Benjamin Elliott, Jr. was born on April 17, 1818 in Franklin County and died on October 4, 1901. Paulina Ann North Elliott, died on December 13, 1913 at the home of her son Edwin.  She is buried along side her husband in section E of the Frankfort Cemetery.

Imogene Elliott was born on January 7, 1857 in Franklin County.  She married Omar Hieatt Thomas, the son of John P. Thomas and Martha Pearl Hieatt, on October 23, 1883 in Franklin County.  Omar and his bride, Imogene settled in the Bridgeport area of Franklin County. They were the parents of four daughters and one son, Paul R. Thomas.  Imogene followed her daughters to Cleveland, Ohio prior to the retirement of her husband. After retirement, Omar joined his family in Ohio.  Mr. Thomas preceded his wife in death on February 23, 1929. Imogene Elliott Thomas, died on December 30, 1942 in Ohio.
