GODDARD - Gene William Manning, 79, Goddard and formerly of Fredonia,
died Monday, May 6, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. .He was born
Nov. 11, 1922, in Ava, Mo., the son of William Gaddison and Alpha Mae
Hardcastle Manning..He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and
was awarded several medals including the Silver Star..He worked was a
custodian for the Fredonia Public Schools for many years..He was a
member of the First Assembly of God Church, Fredonia, and VFW Post...

Gene W. Manning
    Gene William Manning of Goddard, KS, and formerly of Fredonia, died
Monday, May 6, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was
79.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the First
Assembly of God Church in Fredonia with Rev. Howard Ansel Rice and Rev.
Max Manning officiating. Burial was in the Fredonia City Cemetery with
military rites by VFW Post 3018 and 5962. Timmons Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
    The son of William Gaddison and Alpha Mae (Hardcastle) Manning, he
was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Ava, Mo.
    He was a custodian for many years in the Fredonia Public Schools. He
served in the U.S. Army during WI from 1940-1945 in the Medical Corps,
primarily in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver
Star, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the First
Assembly of God Church and VFW Post 3018.
    Survivors include two daughters, Jeannie Webber and Vicki Morgan both
of Wichita, KS; a son, Michael of Stafford, VA; two brothers, Max of
Topeka, KS, and Billie of Branson, MO; five sisters, Geneva Toon, Sybil
Beard and Julia Adams, all of Fredonia, Katherine Mayfield of Topeka,
KS, and Patsy Rice of Omaha, Ne; 10 grand children; and his former
wife, Nadine Manning of Wichita.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gearl; a sister,
Wilma Peak Hestand; and a great-grandson, Luke Patrick Kraus.
