Services Tuesday for Alpha Manning, September 2, 1978
    Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Knickerbocker-
Timmons funeral home for Alpha Mae Manning, 77, resident of Fredonia,
who died Friday at the Topeka Convalescent Center. The Rev. David
Satterfield of Wichita, assisted by Rev. Tim Thomas of the First
Assembly of God in Fredonia will officiate, and burial will be in the
Fredonia City Cemetery.
    Mrs. Manning was born at Bentonville, Ark., on Dec. 23, 1900, a
daughter of Joseph and Sarah Priscilla (Scoggins) Hardcastle.
    She married William H. Manning at Ava, Mo., in 1914, and he preceded
her in death on June 8, 1977.
    She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God, where
she taught the beginners class for 27 years.
    Survivors are four sons, Gearl B. Manning, Albuquerque, N.M.; Gene
W., Fredonia; Max L. , Topeka; Billy Joe, Emporia; six daughters,
Geneva Green, Fredonia; Kathryn Mayfield and Wilma Peak, both of
Topeka; Sybil Beard, and Julia Adams, Fredonia; and Patsy Rice of
Aurora, Neb.; a brother, Lee Hardcastle, Springfield, Mo.; three
sisters, Rena Frye, Reba Byrd and Elsie Hefner; 33 grandchildren and 40
great grandchildren.
