George A. Waldschmidt, 83, Ellis, died April 28, 2006, at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center.

He was born April 15 in Ellis, son of Paul J. and Alvina (Engel) Waldschmidt. He married Patricia A. Hoffman on Sept. 22, 1947, in Hays. He was an Army veteran and received the purple heart.

He was a veteran and received the Purple Heart. He was a retired engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Bruce Waldschmidt, two brothers, Melvin Waldschmidt, and Manuel Waldschmidt-Fein, three sisters, Lillian Miceli, LaVida Sinek, and Addilaide Camarata, five grandchildren, Peter Waldschmidt, Greer, Daniel Waldschmidt, Paul Waldschmidt, Faith Pinkerton, and Joy Waldschmidt, Woodbridge, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Waldschmmidt, Alexander Waldschmidt and Annika Waldschmidt, Bryce Waldschmidt, Woodbridge, Va., and Ashlee Pinkerton, He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Henry Waldschmidt, and a sister, Maddie Waldschmidt.
Burial in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.
