Survivors include his wife, four sons, Bill, Kennan, Darren, & Rocky Racette, three daughters, Kathy, Wolak, Lorie Teichmer, & Donella Younkin, three brothers, Wilcid, Wilbur, & Danny Racette, six sisters, Rita Ribordy, Thelma Beckman, Harriet Schroeder, Betty Zimmeran, Phyllis Zerr, Geneva Robben, 21 grandchildren, & 10 great-grandchildren, He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Racette, in 1992. Delores Rarick, 70, Hoxie, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Cheyenne County Hospital, St. Francis. She was born April 24, 1936, in Hill City, daughter of Thomas and Neva (Saunders) Trowbridge. She married Allan Rarick. He preceded her in death in 1989. She worked in the laundry department at Sheridan County Hospital, Hoxie.
Survivors include a son, Jim Rarick, two daughters, Penny Mitchell, and Tammy Rhoades, three brothers, Devern Trowbridge, Richard Trowbridge, and J. Dennis Trowbridge, three sisters, Dorlie Harwell, Diane Duty, and Darlene Fillpot, and seven grandchildren.

Anna Caroline Reinert, 103, Hoxie, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at her home near Seguin. She was born May 7, 1904, near Leoti to Henry Carolina Busche Geerdes.
She married Theodore Reinert on April 24, 1929, in Seguin. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1987. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Wilfrid Reinert, and Dennis Reinert, seven daughters, Mary Ritter, Sister Anne M. (Irene) Reinert, Madonna Culley, Caroline Jacobs, Janet Berger, Katherine Fitzgibbons, and Ruth Reinert, 29 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and 14 great great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church, Seguin.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Sisters of St. Joseph or to St. Martin Church Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.

Leroy Blaise Reitcheck, 67, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in a traffic accident south of Hoxie. He was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Hoxie, son of Felix B. and Helen Mary (Albers) Reitcheck. He married Mary Doris Zimmerman on Oct. 26, 1961, in Selden. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, two sons, Leroy B. Jr., and Steve, four daughters, Annette Wingerson, Kayleen Sparks, Kimberly Schaffer, and Jayne Turner, two brothers, Felix Jr., and Gary, five sisters, Anna Rose Givens, Margaret Ritter, Pauline Parke, Betty Jacob, and Delores Koerperich, and 10 grandchildren.

Steven Paul Reitcheck, 35, Hoxie, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, Hoxie. He was born Nov. 16, 1970, Hoxie, son of Leroy Blaise and Mary Doris (Zimmerman) Reitcheck. He was a metal fabricator.
Survivors include his mother, of the home; a brother, Leroy Reitcheck, four sisters, Annette Wingerson, Kayleen Sparks, Kim Schaffer, and Jayne Turner.

Nettie Elaine RICHMEIER

Nettie Elaine Richmeier, 68, Hoxie, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. She was born Jan. 1, 1940, near Tasco to Lorenzo (Boe) Deibert and Margaret (Peggy) Richards.

She married Orville Richmeier on April 4, 1959, in Hoxie. She was a medical transcriptionist.

Survivors include three sons, Rodney, Brad, and Darin, a daughter, Laura Winningham, her mother, Peggy Allen, two brothers, Terry Deibert, and Kenneth Deibert, two sisters, Barbara Sample and Sandra Reitcheck, and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Frances Catholic Church, Hoxie; burial in Hoxie Cemetery.

Gail Robert RINGER

U.S. NAVY VETERAN:

Gail Robert Ringer, 87, Quinter, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care, Quinter. He was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Sheridan County to Jonas and Flora "Dolly" (Morgan) Ringer. He was a 1940 graduate of Quinter High School.

He married Ruth Evelyn (McWilliams) Ringer on Dec. 13, 1941, in Colby. She preceded him in death Sept. 29, 2000. He was a farmer and self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Ringer, and Roger Ringer, two daughters, Roberta Gayle Miller, and Rebecca Sue Ringer, a sister, Doreen Bray, six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Quinter; burial in Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.

Hugh E. ROGERS

Hugh E. "Gene" Rogers, 91, Rexford, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007.

He was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Sheridan County to James and Minnie (McCoy) Eavis and adoptive parents, Eber and Annie (Kemper) Rogers.

He was a bus driver.

Survivors include his wife, Anogene Rogers, of the home; two sons, James Rogers and Steve Rogers, a daughter, Eileen Murphy, five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. An infant son, William Michael Rogers, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Selden; burial in Selden Cemetery.

Anna Mary ROHLEDER

Anna Mary Rohleder, 81, Hays, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Feb. 22, 1927, in rural Sheridan County to Clement and Clara (Zerr) Haffner.

She married Dominic Rohleder on June 7, 1948, in Park. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2007. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Doug Rohleder, three daughters, Marjorie Rocha, Darlene Jayne, and Lori Disney, two brothers, Nick Haffner and George Haffner, a sister, Rosie Sauer, eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Peter; burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Velma ROHRBOUGH
04-14-1918 — 07-30-2008

Velma Rohrbough, 90, Oakley, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Logan County Hospital, Oakley. She was born April 14, 1918, in Studley to John and Carolyn "Frankie" (Peters) Townsend. She married Karl Ludolph on Sept. 27, 1936, in Hoxie. She later married Elton Rohrbough on Sept. 9, 1968, in Garden City. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Edward Ludolph, two daughters, Doris Brown, and Laura Nell Mora, a sister, Irene Wilcox, three step-daughters; two step-sons; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley; burial in Hoxie Cemetery.

AN OLD TIMER GONE
Charles Louis Rosenkrans Dies After a Long Illness
Last Thursday afternoon this community was made one of sadness by the announcement that Charles Rosenkrans one of the county's oldest and most highly respected citizens was dead.

For several months Mr. Rosenkrans has been in feeble health and for some time it has been known that the end was not far off and yet when the announcement came that he had answered the final summons it caused much of a shock among those who had known him from early manhood. No more honorable man, no better neighbor or citizen ever lived in Sheridan County than Charles Louis Rosenkrans, and the entire community mourns with the bereaved family his demise.

Charles Louis Rosenkrans was born in Jersey Shore, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, April 12, 1853, at which place he resided until 13 years of age, he then moved to St. Joseph county, Michigan, and was there married to Miss Sarah Ann Wesby in the year 1875. The following year he moved to Decatur county, Kansas, making that his home until 1882, when he settled two miles south of Hoxie, where he died January 9, 1913, after a lingering illness.

Mr. Rosenkrans was the father of nine children, four of whom survive him as follows: Mrs. Wm. Kerr, Mrs. James Kerr, Mrs. Albert Mitchell and Harm Rosenkrans, all of Hoxie, who, with the wife, three sisters, and two brothers mourn the loss of a father, husband and brother.

Yes, Charley Rosenkrans is dead: A good man has gone to his reward and the community mourns. The funeral was conducted Saturday from Hoxie M.E. church by Rev. George Winters who paid a beautiful tribute to the departed when he quoted:

"Let me live in my house by the side of the road. Where the race of men go by --
The men that are good, the men that are bad, as good and as bad as I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat, or hurl the cynic's ban.
Let me live in my house by the side of the road,
And be a friend to man."

ROSENKRANS RITES HELD JUNE FIFTH
*Former County Sheriff Dies In Colorado*
Harm Rosenkrans, 80, former Sheridan County Sheriff and one of the area's pioneer citizens, died unexpectedly Thursday morning June 1, at Lamar Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Rosenkrans had gone to Lamar to attend high school graduation exercises of a granddaughter, Nadine Rosenkrans, and to visit relatives and friends. Mr. Rosenkrans became ill May 29 and died three days later at the Lamar Hospital as the result of a heart ailment.

Funeral Services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Hoxie Presbyterian church by Rev. Todd MacDonald. Burial was at Hoxie.

Harm Rosenkrans was born on a farm in Decatur county Nov. 8, 1880, a son of Charles L. and Sarah (Wesby) Rosenkrans. The family moved to Sheridan County when he was a small child and he lived here throughout most of his life.

He married Ida Montgomery May 23, 1900. The couple observed their 61st wedding anniversary last month.

* *Mr. Rosenkrans was one of the area's well known farmers and stock men for many years. He served six terms as sheriff of Sheridan county, and was Republican county chairman for a number of years.

The family moved to Lamar in 1947 and Mr. Rosenkrans was employed there by the city water department until his retirement in 1955. They moved back to Hoxie in 1959.

Survivors include his wife Ida, one son Dorrance of Fillmore, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. J, Peary Lewis of Hoxie; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. B. Rosenkrans of Lamar; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Kerr of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Mrs. Isabelle Kerr of Auburn, Wash.; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Clarence, one brother and three sisters.

Ida S. ROSENKRANS
HOXIE, KANSAS - SEPTEMBER 14, 1967

Ida S. Montgomery was born May 19, 1883 in Lincoln County, Kansas, and passed away Sept. 4, 1967, at the age of 84 years, three months and a few days. She was the daughter of Chester Lyon Montgomery and Phoebe Ann (Lawrence) Montgomery and grew to womanhood and attended schools in the Lincoln, Kansas area. She had two brothers, George Russell Montgomery and Arthur Montgomery; two sisters, Mary Feaker and Eva Harvey. All have preceded her in death with the exception of her sister Eva Harvey of Merced, Calif.

She was united in marriage to Harm Rosenkrans on May 23, 1900 at Hoxie, Kansas. The ceremony was performed at Harm's fathers ranch a few miles south of Hoxie, the Charles L. Rosenkrans homestead ranch site, where they later lived and raised their family. This marriage ceremony was solemnized by one of the truly old timers, Probate Judge Gregg of Sheridan County.

This marriage was blessed with three children, Clarence B.(Cap), born May 3, 1901; Dorrance L., born Nov. 10, 1906, and E. Maxine, born Feb. 11, 1916.

Her son Clarence passed away Jan. 16, 1960; her husband Harm passed away June 1, 1961, and then Dorrance passed away Aug. 7, 1965. Deep sorrow and heart-ache seemed to follow the family for years, but through all this, she bore her burdens well, with a sincere Christian faith that it was God's will and part of his great plan.

Mrs. Rosenkrans was a member of the Presbyterian church and attended services regularly as long as her health permitted.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Maxine Lewis and husband, Peary Lewis; one sister, Eva Harvey of Merced, Calif.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Bernice (Ward) Rosenkrans of Lamar, Colo., and Stella (Morgan) Rosenkrans of Fillmore, Calif.; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives, all remembering Aunt Ida.

Words are hardly enough to express the thoughts and feelings that we all share in the loss of our loved one, Mother, Grandmother, counsel, adviser and a true and sincere friend and neighbor. Needless to say, Grandma, your place will never be filled and only time will dim the many, many beautiful and loving memories, and may God grant you the tender care and love that you have given us.

Relatives from out of town to attend the funeral services for Mrs. Rosenkrans on Sept. 6, were; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Welden of Dalhart, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Rosenkrans, Mrs. Bernice Rosenkrans, Beulah Ward, all of Lamar, Colo.; and Mrs. Henry Montgomery and daughter-in-law of Bunker Hill, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lewis of Colby, and Mrs. Maxine Lewis, Linda and Sonny of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Jesse Bryan ROSENKRANS
Unknown Newspaper, Hoxie Kansas -- October 1896

Died: On October 8th, 1896, Jesse B. Rosenkrans, aged 18 years and 6 days.

It will probably never be known how the young man received the injuries which caused his death. He had been working for Willis Johnson southwest of town for about four months past, and it was at Mr. Johnson's where the accident occurred.

He had been riding a gentle horse, and it is supposed the animal fell with him throwing him on the ground in such a way as to cause concussion of the brain and spine. The accident occurred Sunday, October 4, and his death October 8, during which time the young man was unconscious.

Funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian Church by Rev. James and the remains were laid to rest in the Hoxie Cemetery.

This is indeed a hard blow to Mr. Rosenkrans and family. Jesse was a young man of promise and the misfortune was all the more keenly felt because of his being taken away in the midst of good health and at the very beginning of a career of usefulness. The bereaved parents have the profound sympathy of the entire community.

Sarah Anna (Wesby) ROSENKRANS

A PIONEER LADY IS CALLED HOME
In the sudden death of Mrs. Rosenkrans this county has lost one of it's earliest settlers. Few people who have passed on life's pathway the stone that marks the 63 rd year of terrestrial life, may count forty-five such markers all identified with the history and well being of Sheridan county. To spend forty-five years in a country in the making, is proof in itself of the nobility of character and kindly instincts of those who are thus privileged. Mrs. Rosenkrans was always proud of her long citizenship here and loyal to the soil that she had so long trod.

In the early days of every new country there is always an opportunity to loan a helping hand to the sick and afflicted, and this good lady, like Whittier said of his mother, never stopped to ask about creed or state but gladly performed her part, in comforting the unfortunate and needy. In fact she never grew weary in well doing, and has left behind her a kind and tender memory that will remain precious to her friends and loved ones, Peace to her soul.

OBITUARY

Sarah Anna Wesby was born in South Milford, Indiana, March 28, 1857, and passed away at Hoxie, March 20, 1921, following a brief illness, at the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

She was united in marriage to Charles Rosenkrans at *** Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo county, Michigan, July 20, 1875 and to them nine children were born, four of whom survive her, Harm Rosenkrans and Mrs. Viola Kerr of Hoxie, and Mrs. Isabelle Kerr, of Woodrow, Colorado, and Mrs. Dot Mitchell of Siebert, Colorado.

The deceased came with her husband to Sheridan County in 1876 and took up a homestead three miles south of Hoxie, where she made her home until called to the Great Beyond.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Tuesday after, conducted by Rev. C.A. Davis, the pastor, and all that was mortal of this kindly lady was laid to rest in the Hoxie cemetery.

Gladys Marie Rogers, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Sheridan County Long Tenn Care Unit. She was born Feb. 1, 1913, near Dillon, daughter of George A. and Bertha (Forster) Whitehair. She married W.E. "Rod" Rogers on Jan. 4, 1936, in Elmo. He died Apri1 18, 1958. She lived in Colby until moving to Hoxie in 1946. She was former owner and editor of The Hoxie Sentinel and a high school secretary and school board clerk.
Survivors include a son, James, a sister, Bernie Hintz, two grandchildren; and a great- granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Rogers.

Madeline M. Rumback, 88, Holdrege, Neb., formerly of Hill City, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Holdrege, Neb.
She was born Aug. 9, 1919, in rural Cloud County to Levi Francis and Margaret Marie (Tremblay) Ribordy.
She married Joseph Rumback on Oct. 25, 1938, in Grainfield. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1993. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Lonnie Rumback, and Les Rumback, two daughters, Wanda Wire, and Juliana Rome, two brothers, Kenneth Ribordy and Lenard Ribordy, three sisters, Marcella Albers, Mary Ann Racette and Rita Huffman, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
A daughter, Geraldine Rome, preceded her in death.
Burial was in the in St. Francis Cemetery, Hoxie.

Ruby B. Savage, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003. She was born July 26, 1910, in Salina. She was a retired sales clerk for Denver Dry Goods.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Mumm, and Shirley White, a brother, John Rogers, a sister, Mildred Thayer, and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; two daughters Majorie Savage and Marilyn Sue Rohr and two infant sons.

John "J.B." Schlageck, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004. He was born Oct. 4, 1929, southwest of Selden, son of Hennan and Kathryn Schlageck. He was a retired parts man for an agricultural business.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Schlageck, a son, Mike Schlageck, a brother, Hennan "J.R." Schlageck,and two sisters, Betty Pauls, and Mary Ellen Smith.

Dixie Lee Scott Schmehr, 73, Hill City, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at Denver Health. She was born April 25, 1934, in Sheridan County to LeRoy Winfield and Mary Mildred Erwin Scott. She attended school in Studley. She married Robert Lee Schmehr in 1956. She was a police dispatcher, an emergency medical technician and worked at the local Standard Oil station in Hill City.
Survivors include a son, Scott Lee Schmehr, three daughters, Dixie Lee Dreher, Roberta Lee Maddux, and Zoe Lee Valentine, 14 brothers and sisters; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, Raymond Lee, and a grandson preceded her in death.

Evelyn Schmidt, 69, Grinnell, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Colby.
She was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Sheridan County to Martin Joseph and Mary Agnes Korte Dickman.
She married Clarence R. "Jess" Schmidt on July 30, 1957, in Angelus. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 2007. She was a retired bank employee at State Bank, Grinnell.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Schmidt, Stan Schmidt, and Kevin Schmidt, a daughter, Lisa Wagoner, her mother, a brother, Ken Dickman, three sisters, Phyllis Diers, Mary Jane Brown, and Linda Zerr, and eight grandchildren.

Selbe on Oct. 21, 1937. He died Nov. 8,1984. She was a true homemaker and fanned with her husband until their retirement in 1964. She had been a resident of Pueblo, living with her daughter and family since 1992.

She was a 1999 graduate of Hoxie High School and received an associate's degree at Seward County Community College, Liberal. She was manager of Dollar General, Hoxie.

Kathleen McNeil Taylor, 73, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Sheridan County Long Term Care, Hoxie. She was born July 22, 1935, in Hoxie, to Ad G. and Mildred Montgomery Smith. She married Marvin D. Taylor on August 21, 1953 in the First Presbyterian Church in Hoxie.

Kathleen was a lifelong lover of learning. She began her education in the Hoxie school system, and continued at Kansas State University, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education. After she and Marvin graduated from college, they returned to Hoxie. Marvin began farming with his father and brother, and Kathleen taught 3rd grade in Hoxie Elementary School. After teaching for six years, she became a full-time mother to Jeannine, Neil, and Daniel, and devoted her time to her family, church, and community.

She was active in the Presbyterian Church as an elder, Sunday school teacher, member and officer of Presbyterian Women, and served on many committees. She was a charter member of Friends of Sheridan County Library, served on the Library Board of Trustees, and as the governor’s appointee to the Northwest Kansas Library System Board, as further evidence of her commitment to continual learning. Kathleen was also a life member of the Sheridan County Historical Society.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and her sister Judith Ann. She is survived by her husband Marvin, of the home; sons Neil and wife, Jolene, of Overland Park, KS, and Dan and wife Stacey of Olathe, KS; daughter Jeannine and her partner, Jeff, of Kansas City, MO, and his son Jamie; five grandchildren: Catherine, Anna, Scott, Matthew, and Emma Taylor; and siblings Charles M. (Monty) of Bullhead City, AZ, and Margy Wentz and husband Tom, of Pasadema, CA.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at 3 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hoxie, with burial following at the Hoxie Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Hoxie, Sheridan County Historical Society or Sheridan County Library.

He married Gwynne Buchanan on Dec. 21, 1968, in Dresden. He was a salesman for Hoxie Implement Company for 35 years. He had operated the Hoxie Theatre for 20 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hoxie, the Hoxie Elks Lodge, had served on the Hoxie Alumni Association board and had been active in the Neighborhood Entertainment Company.

Joseph H. Vahling, 93, Ellis, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center. He was born March 19, 1914, in Angelus, Kansas, Sheridan County to John and Frances (Swingler) Vahling. He was a carpenter, working mostly in Topeka.

Survivors include three sisters, Josephine Werth, Anna Vahling, and Elizabeth Wessel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wasinger-Keithley Funeral Chapel, Ellis; inurnment in St. Mary Cemetery.

Edward "Bill" Vaughn, 81, died Saturday, March 8, 2003. He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Medford, Ore. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee. He married Leona Louise Korte; she died Aug. 14, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Murray, and Gary, a daughter, Karen Raymond, and four grandchildren.

Leona Louise (Korte) VAUGHN

Leona Louise Vaughn, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at the Hays Regional Medical Center in Hays, Kan. She was born Feb. 25, 1925, at the family farm near Angelus, one of 13 children, daughter of Bernard and Louise (Baalman) Korte. Her family moved to Torrington, Wyo., when she was in high school, and she graduated from there. During WWII, she worked as a Rosie the Reverter, putting up metal buildings. On Jan. 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Edward "Bill" Vaughn in Selden, where they made their home all of their married life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, George, Henrv. Lawrence, Clem, Paul, Fred and Edward "Pete"; and two sisters, Treva and Caroline. She is survived by her husband, Bill; two sons, Murray Vaughn, and Gary Vaughn and his wife, DeLena, one daughter, Karen Raymond and her husband, Roger one brother, Leonard Korte and his wife, Vi, one sister, Mary Dickman, four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Burial in the Selden Cemetery.

Leona Vaughn, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Angelus, daughter of Bernard and Louise (Baalman) Korte. She grew up in Angelus, and attended schools in Torrington, Wyo. She married Edward "Bill" Vaughn on Jan. 27, 1948, in Selden. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society and Rose and Garden Club, all of Selden.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Henry, Paul, George, Pete, Clem and Fred, and a sister, Eleanor.

Born near Selden, Ks. Daughter of Charles & Martha (Bain) Motz. She married Frank Wachendorfer, who preceded her in death in1977. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Linnell, & Mary Ellen Krannawitter, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren,,& one step grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son Dennis Wachendorfer. & two grandchildren.

Elaine Wagoner, 76, Quinter, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. She was born Dec. 18, 1930, in rural Studley to George F. and Nella B. (Carley) Simon.

She attended Pleasant Glen Elementary School near Studley and was a 1948 graduate of

Sheridan County High School. She married Martin A. Wagoner Jr. on Aug. 16, 1948. He preceded her in death on April of 1990. She was a medical assistant.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Wagoner, and Dwight Wagoner, a daughter, Connie Crawley, a brother, Edwin Simon, two sisters, Wilma Mader, and Winifred McCullough, seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Studley; burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Studley, Sheridan County.

Myrtle E. WARNER

Myrtle E. Warner, 101, Oberlin, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, in Newton. She was born June 18, 1907, in rural Selden to Edward and Ellen C. Anderson. She attended country schools near Selden and Oberlin.

She married Walter Rogers in 1924. He preceded her in death. She later married Jess Warner in 1947. He preceded her in death. She was an engraver for a printing company.

Survivors include a son, Gerald Rogers, five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oberlin United Methodist Church; burial in Lund Cemetery, rural Oberlin.

Robert O. “Robbie” WASHBURN

Robert O. "Robbie" Washburn, 93, Oakley, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Logan County Manor, Oakley. He was born May 15, 1915, in Sheridan County to Clarence L. and Maudie M. (Martin) Washburn.

He married Norma Gfeller on May 4, 1938, in Hays. He was owner of Washburn Truck Line and Modern Market, Winona.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters, Sharon Mackley, and Lynne Scott and Joyce Atkinson, 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley; burial in Winona Cemetery.

Bernita Marie Weber, 72, Hoxie, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Sheridan County Long Term Care, Hoxie. She was born January 14, 1937 to Seraphine and Anna (Feldt) Depperschmidt in rural Sheridan County. She married Kenneth Weber February 23, 1957 at Leoville. He died July 22, 2001;. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Al Jay of Dresden, and three infant brothers, John, Melvin and Elmer.

She is survived by two sons and their families, Rick and Beverly Weber and their children Shelby, Reid, and Rhett of Waukomis, OK, and Greg and Thresia Weber and their children Bailey and Riley of Hoxie, a sister, Viola Koerperich of McCook, NE; many nieces and nephews and other family members.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21 at St. Frances Catholic Church, Hoxie. Memorial may be made to Sheridan County EMS, Ridgewood Manor, or the donor’s choice, and sent in care of the funeral home.

He married Elizabeth Vahling on May 11, 1948, in New Almelo. He was a farmer.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Angelus.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Donald Wessel, Michael Wessel, and Patrick Wessel, six daughters, Carol Raney, Rose Wessel and Barbara Wessel, Mary Zerr, Dot Graham, and Laura Wessel, five brothers, Tom Wessel and Dave Wessel, Bob Wessel, Leroy Wessel, and Charlie Wessel, three sisters, Rita Wessel, Mary Ann Seymour, and Sister Bernadine Wessel, 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Zola M. White, 99, Quinter, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. She was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Lucerne to M. Jay and Carrie Mowry Barr.

She married James H. White on Oct. 14, 1931, in Hoxie. He preceded her in death March 31, 1989. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, James J. White, and Charles White, three daughters, Betty Corke and Carolyn Bell, and Charlotte McMillen, a sister, Theo Barr, 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Richard D. "Rick" Whitmer, 45, Hays, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007. He died at the Hays Medical Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1962, in Hoxie to Richard L. and Rosa Lee (Hirt) Whitmer. He received his bachelor's of science degree in business from Fort Hays State University in 1985 and was a certified public accountant. He married Jennifer Frank on June 15, 1985, in Hays. He was a bank examiner for FDIC for 20 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, John Whitmer, Benjamin Whitmer, Joseph Whitmer and Richard Whitmer Jr., Rebecca Whitmer and Samantha Whitmer, his parents, Richard L. and Rosa Lee Whitmer, three brothers, Michael Whitmer and wife, Shelly, Mark Whitmer and wife, Rebecca, and Dennis Whitmer and wife, Christa, a sister, Denise Rounkles and husband, Ron, and his mother-in-law, Sally Frank.

His infant twin daughters; his grandparents, Bethold and Evelyn Hirt, and Robert and Cora Whitmer, and his father-in-law, Robert Frank, preceded him in death.
