Grain Man and Financier Dies

Frank Summers Ill for Several Years

Frank A. Summers, 501 East A, vice president and general manager of Security Elevator Co., and partner in Chas, Summers & Sons, with widespread grain, lumber, land and ‘banking interests in southwest Kansas, died early yesterday at Halstead hospital.

He had been ill intermittently for three years. He was stricken again about a week ago. He was 48 years old last Dec. 3.

Son of Charles Summers, 84-year-old Liberal pioneer, who filed on Seward county land in 1885, Mr. Summers came here in January, 1926, to take charge of the family’s Security Elevator Co. Interests. Previously he was in the Citizens State bank of Liberal. He was vice president of the bank at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Chicago and Hutchinson Boards of Trade. Trading on the Hutchinson board will be suspended from 10 to 10:15 o’clock tomorrow morning in memorial to him. The Security Elevator Co. office in the Wiley building will be closed through tomorrow.

Mr. Summers had a wide acquaintance in Hutchinson and southwest Kansas. Wiley building employees commented today he had “never forgotten” them at Christmas and with other generosities.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mae S. Summers; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Beazley and Elizabeth Summers, 501 East A; his father; two brothers, Edwin C. Summers and Ralph Summers, both of Liberal, and two sisters, Mrs. Lee Larrabee and Mrs. Don Henry, both of Liberal.

The funeral will be at 4 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at First Presbyterian church. Rev. Arthur Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Presbyterian church from 2:30 to 3:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon preceding the service.
