Miss Leah Lewis Dies After Lengthy Illness

Miss Leah Florence Lewis formerly of 1280 Garfield, died Tuesday in a Topeka hospital after a long illness. She was 86. [There is some dispute over her age; a niece calculated her age at 89, which places her birth in 1875.]

She was born Dec. 15, 1878 at Auburn, Ill., and lived in Topeka most of her life. She was the eldests living member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church of Topeka, having been a member over 75 years.

For the past six years her home was at Hutchinson.

Survivors include a niece, Miss Emma Sage of Hutchinson, and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Fairlawn Cemtery[sic]  at Hutchinson.

Miss Lewis will lie in state at the mortuary until the services here.

[presumably published in the Hutchinson Kansas newspaper on March 30, 1965]
