Obituary
JOHN EDWARD HICKMAN
John Edward Hickman was born in Fayette Co., West Va., June 12, 1871, and died June 21, 1910, aged 39 years and 9 days. He came to Miami Co., Kansas, with his parents in manhood. He removed to Gray county, Kansas, where he held his residence at the time of his death. The deceased had come to his old neighborhood where he expected to operate a threshing outfit this season arriving at the home of J. E. Connor, at the former home of the Hickman family, at 5 o'clock p.m., apparently in his usual health. He partook of a hearty supper at 7 p.m. and visited with those present after supper for 15 or 20 minutes, when he suddenly fell, without speaking a word or uttering a sound, and within 10 minutes, life was extinct. Ed, as he was known, was held in high esteem by his many friends in his western home and also at his old home. He leaves to mourn his loss, one brother Overton Hickman, and two sisters, Mrs. M. A. Chappell, and Mrs. F. S. Humiston, all of Hutchinson.

The funeral services were held at the home of J. E. Connor in Medford township, Reno Co., Thursday, June 23, at 10 a.m. The services were conducted by Rev. W. L. Hinshaw of Burrton, assisted by Rev. L. E. Fahrney. The remains were laid to rest in Cottonwood cemetery at Sterling.
