    Obituary HARLAN EDWIN BYRD Harlan Edwin Byrd, 18, apprentice seaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Byrd, 318 North Plum, died Friday at the navy hospital at Farragut, Idaho, following an attack of acute meningitis. Harlan enlisted in the navy about two months ago and was sent to Farragut for training.  He became ill about a month ago and his parents were informed he had suffered an attack of rheumatic fever.  Later they received word he was recovering.  No additional information reached them until official notice arrived of the death. Harlan was born in Hutchinson Dec 9, 1925 and had lived here all of his life.  He was a senior in high school this year and quit school to join the navy.  He was employed by the Kansas state grain inspection department last summer. He is survived by his parents; one brother, Darrell Dean Byrd, and two grandmothers, Mrs. Cora Byrd of the home and Mrs. Sarah Humiston, 440 West Sherman.   Burial will be in Hutchinson.
