Hill City Republican -- Hill City, Kansas

Ida Eoline LAWLIS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.P. [Ruben Philip] GARNETT, was born Oct 1, 1875, in Onslow, Iowa, and passed away Oct 16, 1946, at the age of 71 years and 15 days. In 1895 [corr: March 28,1896] she was united in marriage to James Thomas LAWLIS in Graham county, Kansas.To this union 10 children were born. Mrs. LAWLIS was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1927, and by two children that died in infancy.

Mrs. LAWLIS is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Goldie [John] WOOTEN, of Phillipsburg, KS., Mrs. Dora [Dewey] DAILY, Salina. KS., and Miss Opal LAWLIS of Norton, Ks., and five sons, Albert, of Brownlee, Nebraska, Robert of Prasser, Washington, Ivan and Donald of Sumner, Washington, and Lauren in the Signal Corp. of the armed forces in Germany; one sister, Mrs. Charles HUNDLEY of Clay Center, Ks. Seventeen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs LAWLIS grew to womanhood in Iowa, coming to Kansas at the age of 16. They settled in Graham county where she spent the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Methodist church. Mrs. LAWLIS was a mother giving her time to her family. She was well known in Hill City where she lived for many years. Mrs. LAWLIS had been in ill health for several years, spending much of her time in the hospital. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
