First service was at Camp Dennison (Ohio) for two months at 10 dollars per month. Commence Service July 5, 1861. Next service was when examined and sworn in as Teamster for three years or during the War under a call of General Fremont. Was under a man by the name of Garoute, was taken to Tipton, Mo. where in November '61 was put in charge of 25 six mule teams for the First Kansas Colonel Deitzler and served for six months at 65 Dollars per month. Teams were turned in at Ft. Scott, Kansas in April '62. Was discharged and paid off for service. Went to Fort Leavenworth, drove a team from Fort Leavenworth to Fort Union, New Mexico. The Command was under Colonel Howe. Wagonmaster's name was Cooper. Salary was 35 dollars per month. Returned from Fort Union to Fort Leavenworth in September 1862, was paid off at Fort Leavenworth at 35 per month. Went from there to Rolla, Mo. was Wagonmaster in charge of 26 mule teams for 13 months from Rolla to Springfield and Outposts. Was transferred from Rolla to St. Louis, Mo. Quartermaster at Rolla name was Grimes. Was transferred from St. Louis to Cape Girrodau, Mo. Was under Quartermaster Samuel Hipple until the end of the War. Was discharged and paid off in July 1865. Salary was 75 Dollars per month, always received pay in Vouchers.
